Thanks Nancie! It was such fun to shoot this (and lot of similar pictures). The sky was clear until just before sunset when luckily some clouds moved in.

I like the soft, painterly effect in this lovely composition. I am a little confused with the white look of the two grass clumps and reflections - It almost looks like a bright light is shining on them. I wonder if you could add some warmth to the highlights or otherwise bring back some color in these areas. I think that might further contribute to the impression of soft summer lighting.

Like Mike and Theresa I keep looking for something in the photo to stand out. But I think this would be a nice photo for anyone who lives in this area who would be interested in this bird's eye view.

This is a striking image. It does show the hanging highway well.

I like the large cactus in the foreground as it makes me feel like I am standing right there. My only suggestion as a "do over" (if possible) would be to shift your point-of-view a little to the right so the cactus is further to the left in the composition. I feel that would improve the balance in the image. I think you did a good job with adding color to the sky and the mountain edge looks natural to me. |

Thanks, Mike, for your comments! I haven't heard of the Ranch and Rural Living magazine, but I will give it a try. And thanks for the tip on formatting it as a vertical.

I completely understand. I am a bit of a purist myself - particularly when I want to remember a scene just as I saw it. Some of the photo contests I enter allow only minor adjustments but also have categories where anything goes and I venture out a bit at times.

If you meant the hanging highway to be the subject of the shot, I think it is too small in the image to really show that. If you hadn't pointed that out, I wouldn't have noticed it. But that said, I really like the mountain scene and think you processed it beautifullly.

This is a nice image and it must have exciting to see this sight! I think the image would have more interest if there was a little more variation in the color in the sky. I recently saw a Photoshop technique demonstrated that might work on this type of photo. You basically layer a sky image on top of the original image layer and use the multiply blend mode for the layers. Of course if you are a "purist" and don't like to modify what you saw, it is still good as is.

This is a lovely image and I like the watercolor effect on the bridge, water, and buildings. I agree with Theresa that is is confusing to have the red lanterns in sharp focus. I don't care for the watercolor effect on the people on the bridge and wonder if they could be removed. There is a lot going on in the image and I don't think they are necessary to the composition. Also, there are a couple of small protrusions on the center right and upper right side that I think could be cropped or removed to clean up the image a bit. This is a beautiful scene! |
