Thanks for your thoughtful suggestions, Trinda. I tried cropping some sky but it still looked almost split in half unless I cropped very close to the sun. I tried the vertical crop but it put the sun right in the center. Also the vertical crop didn't convey the same mood for me that the empty stretch of beach and big sky did. Lastly, I tried flipping the image and I did think it was an improvement. In the original, the sun traps the eye and tends to keep you from moving through the image to the right. In the flipped image, the flow is much better - moving from lower left to upper right. Thanks! |

I hope I get to see your part of the country sometime! I have never been in New Mexico - except for putting a hand or foot in it at Four Corners! My granddaughter may have a temporary position in Albuquerque soon. If that happens,I may get to make a trip there with my daughter. You are lucky to have this beautiful scenery where you live! |

Thanks, Nancie! I hope you do get to see this area sometime! Our group spend most of our time in the Andalusian region of Spain - and I loved it all. |

This is a beautiful scene and nice composition with the layers of clouds, mountains, lake, and foreground. I think the image could be improved with a little less saturation overall. I like your point of view close to the rocks and small trees in the foreground - I makes me feel like I am standing right there viewing the scene. |

This is another beautiful image of the Cape of South Africa! I particularly like sweep of the fog up the slope. I feel saturation of the blue sky could be toned down a bit to better compliment the more subdued tones in the landscape. You did a good job of capturing this if you were in a moving car!

I love shots of the milky way and yours is a very good one! The foreground is interesting and you did an excellent job of processing the sky. I'm glad you joined our group and I look forward to more of your work! |

Thanks, John. I would like to make the sun a little less bright, but when I haven't been successful in doing that without making it look unnatural.

That is what I like about photography workshops! The leader knows where the shots are, best time-of-day, etc.

There is a pleasing balance in this composition with the foreground tree on the lower right off-setting the chapel and fir trees on the left. Also, I like how the chapel is "peeking" around the trees. The frosty grass is a nice bonus. This was a lucky find and it turned out well in spite of your high ISO! |

This is a perfect image for black and white processing. This is nicely composed and the buildings are very sharp. For my own taste, I would like to see it brightened up a bit. You might be able to get more definition in the trees and roof shadow areas. Nevertheless, this is a very nice image. |

This is a compelling image with the three beautiful waterfalls and I like your composition of this scene. I agree with Mike that this would be improved by toning down the saturation - particularly the greens. The person at the top of the center waterfall was a nice surprise! I hope you were able to capture a closer view of this person in another photo. |

Thanks, Mike. You are right about the image needing a focal point and needing to be thoughtful about how the eye will move through the image looking for that. I sometimes get carried away by a sunrise or sunset and forget I need something for the eye to settle on. Good point!
