This has a very mysterious mood! I can see why you stopped in the road for it. I think this would work well also in black and white. I am noticing some dark blotches in the fog above the road and wonder if this is something reflecting on the windshield that could be cloned out or are these shadows in the scene? The signs don't bother me but I think a closer crop (sides and top) would lead you into the scene more. Well seen! |

Thanks for your comments, Trinda. I think the frozen lake didn't come across - only the spot of open water - so I can see why this looked like a summer shot to you. Having just read about how to use split toning, I tried it on this picture. But maybe the bluer original would have conveyed the cold feel better as you suggested. The empty pavilion against the sky was the subject of this photo for me and the open water was just an interesting focal point along the way, so removing the pavilion would make it a different picture altogether. But I have taken photos of just the lake and trees in this park and maybe I will post one sometime. My photo buddy loves to shoot from the car while I would rather use a tripod to take my time to compose a shot. But I take car window shots when the opportunity arises. I keep telling my friend she need to remove her outside mirrors that get in the way of the shot!

Thanks, Nancie. Here is a little more info on split toning. I use 35 for the warm setting and 220 for the cool setting. I usually use the warm setting for highlights and the cool setting for shadows but you could do it the other way around depending on the image. I push the saturation up for both in the split toning to about 20. |

Beautiful colors and I love the rays of the sunburst that lead to the bright areas of the ground on the right. |

I was wondering if there could be more detail in the hanging parts of the moss. But maybe that is just what moss looks like! Good for you for getting out early in the morning on a foggy, rainy day for the shot!

Thanks Debi. I can see now that the highlights in the sky look a little overblown. I'll try your suggestion. |

I love your composition of this beautiful scene. There is something interesting in all parts of the image - foreground, middle ground, and background. I am wondering if you processed this in Topaz Impression as it has a soft, painterly look?
I want to be there! |

I love the sweeping, curving lines that lead me right to the worker, then continue on into darkness. I can feel the isolation of the lone worker in this vast landscape. I think black and white works perfectly for this high-contrast image. |

The red sky and reflection in the water is spectacular and I like the alternating dark areas of trees. The tiny boat completes this composition perfectly and adds a story. This must have been amazing to witness this sunset.
I don't know why you sold your camera after taking this picture but I hope it was to purchase another one. |

I like your composition of this unusual tree in the fog. I think this image has more impact in black and white and with the increased contrast that Debi posted. I wonder if you could have gotten more definition in the hanging moss by using a higher shutter speed if it was windy, or maybe just a smaller aperture to get a more depth of field. This is a nice, moody image and I like the vignette you added. |
