37 Nov 21 Reply Thank you, Peter. I might do that. If I use Peter Cheung's crop, it makes sense to crop similarly on the right and clone out the two remaining numerals. Nov 24th
37 Nov 21 Reply Thank you for your suggestion, Peter. I do like your crop, which accentuates the four arches. One of the things drawing me to the site was the Diego red bougainvillea, which I have repeatedly and unsuccessfully tried to grow in my climate Nov 24th
37 Nov 21 Reply Love your poetic comment, Subhash.

37 Nov 21 Reply Thanks, Howard. Re the color, I think replacing the blank, grey sky with such a strong blue might have been overkill, and inconsistent. I wanted to go back the next day, sunny with genuinely blue skies making shadows on the facade. But we didn't have time. Nov 20th
37 Nov 21 Reply Thank you, Ham. I had trouble deciding where to crop and like your suggestion, too. This, as with other architecture shots, is definitely photographing someone else's art. Nov 20th
37 Nov 21 Comment Well composed. Beautiful color. Just enough foreground: the buildings, road, and evergreens with the mountain soaring majestically above. Your crop brings more attention to the mountain. A serene, winter scene I'd like on my wall, especially during the summer. Nov 20th
37 Nov 21 Comment An unusual capture, Howard. Good detail. Sharp from the whiskers to the ear hairs. A bit of a Rorschach: if I imagine the eye looking toward the left, I see a creature with a tall head. The ear becomes a mouth, and the horn, if that's what it is, is the nose. Nov 20th
37 Nov 21 Comment The sharp, beautiful detail of the wood duck's eye and markings contrasts with the abstract shapes in the water. Well done. Nov 20th
37 Nov 21 Comment Good capture, Peter. I rarely think of photographing with shadows in front of a structure created by backlighting. Your positioning makes the lighthouse look majestic. I like the lesson of Ham's warmer version. Nov 20th
37 Nov 21 Comment I like the compositional element of the handsome bird on his interesting perch. Also the repeat of colors of the yellow leaves with his beak and lichen. More of the same colors in the bokeh, which ties it all together nicely, but I agree with Howard that it could be darkened. Nov 20th
37 Nov 21 Comment What a gorgeous landscape, Peter! It has everything: the oxbow curve; the rich sunset and reflection; the muted, distant mountain; and a single person for scale. You did a good job of cloning out the others if they were among the tall grasses. Nov 20th

64 Nov 21 Reply I know the man with the cane, and I think he would have appreciated the nearby wall as a good support if needed. Nov 20th
64 Nov 21 Reply Thank you, Stuart. All good suggestions. There was detail at the end, but I found it distracting. Perhaps softening rather than blackening it. Nov 20th
64 Nov 21 Comment A strikingly bold B&W, which I like, but there are too many elements for my taste, too. I usually go for minimalism and would prefer it without the trees. Possibly the power lines, too. But there'd be no reason for the power poles which I find interesting. Nov 20th
64 Nov 21 Comment I think the lines of the road and some clouds seem suggest motion even absent blurring. I like the varied facial expressions, too. Good capture. Nov 20th
64 Nov 21 Comment This is an excellent choice for monochrome. I like the old timey feeling your sepia toning, fogging and frame give to this 1894 structure. We have photographed some OR lighthouses but didn't get this far North. I'd like to shoot more of them and learning that it is a B&B makes this one even more appealing. Nov 20th
64 Nov 21 Comment My eye wants to study all the sharp detail of the alternating bands of the primarily dark and light rock as they recede. I never heard of the Google Pixel 4XL. Certainly better than any pano I've taken with my iPhone: I thought you had stitched together multiple vertical shots, tho I don't know whether PS would align such fine detail. Nov 20th
64 Nov 21 Comment I like the letterbox format and balanced composition of the trees with their reflections just slightly blurred. Its starkness does say winter. I feel it works with or without the near riverbank. Does anybody else see a smudge in the very center of the reflection, or is it my screen? Nov 20th
64 Nov 21 Comment John, I see your point of wanting to show the expanse of the scene, excellent in B&W. The trees in front add a different texture, almost a filigree. And, yes, my eye moves through them wanting to examine the boldness of the mountains and clouds behind.
