Sounds like a challenging course and very time consuming. |

Welcome, Ellen. Look forward to seeing your bio when it is posted.
My only experience with horses is shooting at the race track and shoot on continuous aperture mode hoping one will be sharp. Where you started is a good place to see what you can get and how to adjust. Martin's suggestions are good. He said "manual" but in my opinion you may find it easier to put on aperture mode to start. We all have our favorite ways. I feel your focus is a bit soft, and you will learn the right settings to get it sharper. I suggest you have a little more room at the back of the horse so that his tail is not running out of the frame. I look forward to more of your horse shots!!

I love this, especially the perspective that makes it appear you were right on the field with them. You certainly caught the action with the girl's eyes right on that ball. The position of the ball doesn't bother me. In fact, a good title might be, "Never take your eyes off the ball," making the position seem intentional. What is the class you are taking? |

I'll probably get rid of those circles because the more I look at them, the more they pop out. |

Thanks, Piers. The flash was intentional to try to produce some high lights. |

I just stood where it would focus--fairly close. Notice my f-stop of 40 used in order to get all the marbles in focus. I was intentional with using a flash because I wanted some high lights. Do you think they are distracting? I suppose I could tone down the bright spots. The tiny circles on some of the marbles are defects in the glass. Do you think they are distracting? |

I love your set-up and editing. If it wouldn't break a copyright law, I bet you could change that floor to make it look as if she is standing there with them! Fun shot.

Piers, my favorite part of your image is the "dow" with the colors and reflections in the water making me happy! The edited skyline, I believe, is appealing other than possibly toning down the pinks. I feel that you have three images of almost equal value: the sky, the buildings, and the boat in the forefront. I would like to see the sky cropped about 2/3 that would bring the boat as the dominant part of the image. Lovely and welcoming! |
