Jacqueline, regarding the sky. Photoshop is really easy to use sky replacement now. However, I feel it's cheating a little to use somebody else's clouds. I live on a ridge and keep a look out for clouds to shoot. Photoshop will allow you to download your own clouds. Voila! |

I love it--good example of how the tones work well in monochrome. I feel the position of the tree in your frame is well balanced with the trees on the left and the small pile below those trees. Beautiful shot, and I would love to go to Jekyll Island. Is it overcrowded with photographers? |

I love converting colored to monochrome. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. I believe you have a good start, and Lightroom's new masking tool could help you in bringing out more tones. I agree with Piers that some of the sky can be cropped. |

I like your contrasting colors of the fall against the evergreens and the curve of the road leading me into the picture. My suggestion would be opposite of Piers pertaining to cropping. I would suggest changing to a square format and cropping the left side almost to the road. This would then eliminate the small bright growth on the left that is fighting for attention instead of the scene below. Wondering where this was taken... |

Thanks, Karen. I have cropped at bottom of first level--had to clone out the tops of the buildings to the right. What do you think? |

Thanks, Piers. I was on the architectural river tour. So no opportunity to get water in front. |

Thanks, Martin. I agree and had my doubts about it being anything except a vacation picture other than converting to monochrome. I like your suggestion! |

Wow! In my opinion you have captured Matthew perfectly--his pose, the lighting, the color, the background. It's no wonder you won a gold. Very professional! |

Lovely catch. I like how the diagonal of the lowers lead me to the child. I would suggest cropping some more off the top leaving just the two (or three) lower rows of windows to put more emphasis to the lower section. Also, my eye wants to go to those white pots on the left and might help to decrease its brightness. Would love to see the gardens. |

Jim, I love the glow of the aspens caught at the perfect time of the day and the detail of the log in the foreground. I do feel that you have two subjects here that are difficult to bring together, especially with the contrast in the light between the two scenes. As you said, "it's what you had to deal with." In the case, I would suggest perhaps trying a gradual change in the contrast by using Lightroom's linear gradient. |

Jamie, I feel that your cropping really made this image pop. Is this the Old State Capitol? |
