Martin, what a dramatic shot. All three can tell a story of her progression with the original 2 being a happier one. I believe your intention of bringing out the details in her face does what you intended--the dark side effect! Her eyes are beautiful. I would print original 2 for her. Make it small so she can carry it. She would be proud to have it! |

Had I not already read all the analyses of you wise folks, I might be taking a different stand. My first thought is that he needs a little more head room, but I do like the wider view of the stage. It's a stage! I suppose it depends on whether you want this to be photo journalism or a work of art. I like the story of the expression of the man on the right. So other than giving him more head room and perhaps taking down the highlight on his pants, I would let the catch tell the story. |

Karen, I am not a birder either, and this sounds very challenging to me. I do like your second edit better, especially the eye. That was what my untrained eye noticed in your first one was his eye! I would make one more suggestion in that re-edit is to clone out the end of the branch next to his tail feathers to give more separation. Good capture! |

Another great photo journalist shot, Hung. It tells a story so well. Great colors, sharp, action. I wouldn't change a thing--and hope she missed the puddle. |

I love how the boats are all lined up waiting for spring. To me the focal point of the image is the reflection, and the trees don't bother me. Instead of the re-crop that you did, I would suggest cropping more off the top--just above the tips of the booms (is that what they're called?) and not cropping anything from the bottom because I love the reflections. Is the water running down hill slightly to the right or is it my eyes? |

Jim, interesting comments from everyone on what to me is a very lovely capture. The tree almost looks like a sea urchin. The sun is beautifully framed. I also think that the tree needs to be deepened some to give more contrast with the tone of the sky. Martin did some magic in his editing, and I assume he even changed the perspective some that draws me into the sun differently. Nice capture, and I admire your having the patience to try multiple days. |
