Hi Steve,
For my eye, the Rolex poles are simply too much of a block to what's happening behind them. I wish you could have been either right or left of where you were for this one. Your processing is superb. |

Very nice, Melanie. This is a perfect application for IR. I might have done just two things a bit differently...moved those palms off center to open up that merge in the window in the house and removed the tree stump/partial tree appearing just behind the corner of the house. |

Hi Emil,
A simple and effective scene in my book. Like some other comments, I'd appreciate more white in those ferns. You might also take a look at what slightly lighter trees would look like--getting a bit more of the detail in the bark. |

Well seen, Henry, and the composition is one we normally don't get in Palouse images. Great leading line with the road to the distant Steptoe Butte. I wonder if the horizon is slightly slanted to the right? Superbly processed. |

Hi Jack,
This has got a tranquility and classic nature to it that is very inviting to the viewer. My only suggestion mirrors Arik's...work the blacks and whites a bit to make them bolder and increase contrast without losing detail. |

Yes, the use of IR has certainly boosted this scene greatly! Well composed, Arik, as we'd of course expect from you. I am mildly troubled by the bright sky upper rh side...mildly. |

Hi Charles,
Firstly, thank you for the description. It sure gives us context for this location and your interest in it. Glad you got to visit your wife's birthplace. You're right, in my view this just didn't quite get the excitement you'd hoped for when I first viewed it. The scene is idyllic, and one could spend many frames capturing it. Another time of day perhaps? Different light? Who knows. I tried an alternative, using Nik Silver Efex Pro, vignetting the edges, and darkening the bridge slightly. I don't know if it's more visually friendly or not...just had fun trying it! |
