Thanks Jack! I'll be playing with this some more and will certainly look at toning. It was good to 'get out there' and make some new images. |

Very interesting composition and location, Jack. I think the shadows need a bit more brightening, selectively. Try NIK Color Efex Pro--Detail Extractor on this one and see if you like the results. |

Hi Henry,
Beautiful composition and subject. It can use contrast. It appears flat to my eye, and contrast will improve visual impact in my opinion. Here's a version that borders on too dark, and it has both contrast added PLUS setting a black point on the larger spot of blue sky. Added contrast alone may suit you just fine without the LEVELS black point setting. |

Hi Palli,
Nicely seen! IR certainly works for this scene. Check the horizon line when you have time and see if it is straight...appears to be slanting to the right to my eye. Again, for my eye, the expanse of water doesn't add much to the visual impact...if only there was a rowboat or small sailboat coming by! |

Hi Charles,
I would have enjoyed your comments about why you chose color IR and the range of colors/tones you selected. You did a nice job of straightening the horizon line and cropping out the foreground water, in my view. I simply don't relate to the color palette...which is my problem, not yours! I have one camera converted to color IR and have constantly struggled to create something with it that I like. |

Hi Emil,
Congrats on using PS Beta! I haven't tried it yet but should. It helped your composition very much. This image has a somber and appropriate mood to my eye. You've taken the time to create that with Silver Efex and other tweeks. Look at the building and the darker water...I see a few white spots that you could easily remove as distractions. |

Hi Arik,
You could have titled this "Just Friends" as one example. I note she has her hand on or near his knee, signifying that friendship. Very powerful and strong composition. I am struggling with the bulk of the tree, but I don't know why. It took your vision to 'see' this one! |

Hi Melanie,
In a word...POWERFUL. Such strong visual impact. I think IR DID give it that edge that makes it different from regular B&W. It's a photojournalistic image of the highest order, but I don't think IR is allowed in competitions in PJ in PSA. Never mind...it's a super shot! |
