Emil...this subject matter and treatment is intriguing. A wonderful scene to photograph...in IR and in color I'd assume. Do you like the revised composition I've attached? The partial, ed tree on the left side is a distraction for my eye...maybe not for yours. I'm not big on cropping much, but I felt it might have made it stronger? I also added just another dash of contrast. See what you think. This would be a wonderful large print on a rich, matte paper!

Palli...what a wonderful mood you've created with this seascape...it feels tranquil and inviting. I like the balance in the composition. Is it my failing eyesight, or is the horizon slightly tilted to the right...if so, a very easy fix. I also see a significant amount of noise in the sky...might maske this area and soften it about with Dfine or DeNoise...just suggestions to further adjust a fine image. I just read Jack's comments...always try to write my own first without reading other's views...but I agree on the crop-down of the sky. Or...you could 'import' some bold IR clouds from your files if you like!!! |

Hi Melanie...in a word "DRAMATIC". I love the Mittens in IR. My only issue with your image is that one of the structures seems blocked by a cloud mass, and the distant ones are very dark...so there's not a lot of contrast between them and the rich, black sky. At the least, I think you might try lightening and adding contrast to the foreground mitten, perhaps doing a tad of dodging on the background structures.
Lastly...yes...WELL DONE on seeing and including the beautiful foreground foliage! |

Stunning, Jack...what a wonderful scene with the IR medium. I know what you mean about the red rock, but monochrome sure does work in my view. Remember than Ansel used monochrome throughout the Southwest, and I think he did ok with the results! For my eye, the whole scene needs a little 'punch', but you know I like strong blacks and whites and contrast...more so than you generally prefer. So, just for fun, I adjusted Levels in the original, then masked the trees and used the 'white' eyedropper to put pure white into the brightest part of the foreground trees. I will admit, there's a slight, smallish 'spike' in the histogram, but it's not bothering me. |
