Greetings, Emil...without first reading the other comments, since I'm late this month...my reactions to your image--simply stunningly beautiful scene. IR is a perfect compliment for this, especially in color. Since the mid-ground is so dominating in the composition, I chose to use Nik for Darken/Lighten Center AND add a dash (58%) of Polarization to the sky. I very mildly lightened the foreground horses. To my eye, it has a bit more 'pop' now, but as others in the group can attest, I'm a fan of bold colors and contrast! |

Hi Palli,
A great scene to photograph in IR Palli! The tree right begs to be lightened, and I did that using Viveza in 3 places in the tree to be subtle with the lightening. Also lightened the background clouds to get a bit more separation between them and the stark black sky. See what you think. I really like the muted/partially shaded foreground to give depth and dimension to the image...you have foregound, midground and background all present in this one. |

Melanie,
Well done...I love boldness, as you know, and this is bold! I'm not bothered by the tree on the right and find it gives a sense of place. Wonderful application of the IR medium. |

Hi Jack,
Without reading any other comments before writing...WOW. I like it...it's classic Jack Florence in style and technique. You even managed an odd-number of trees...5! The woman is the magic touch. Some might say she's too centered, but this whole composition works well for my eye, and infrared adds a whole new dimension to the scene. This one is competition grade in my view. |

Hi Ernie...I'm late this month what with the PSA Conference...say, I really like this. Often, the use of Topaz filters can look a little contrived, but not here. I am attaching another 'view of the world'...a different crop with the canvas extended at the top. See what you think. The emphasis is now on that gorgeous ship's hull shadow in the foreground. |

Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for your detailed critiques and suggestions. We seem to be of mixed views on the retention/elimination of the gas-filled balloon in the background. This is actually in theme with 1863, the period being represented, but it may also be a distraction or 'split' subject matter. All of you wanted to see more detail in the covered area of the barn. So, I've taken out the balloon, lighted the foliage, and added density to the shadows of the barn's overhang. What's the verdict? Thanks, all... |
