All...thank you very much for the constructive and observant comments...they always prove very helpful for me. I am seeing what you are mentioning, though I'm not as personally bothered by the horizon line and the sharpness of the foreground as you have mentioned.
One thing I DO think is very good for all of us, and if you read the first comments of Palli, you'll see why I mention this--I feel each of us should view the full size image and comment as we see it, the good with the "needs improvement", but not read or review the others' comments first...it adds a natural bias that is hard to overlook. Just my thoughts on the idea of photo critiquing... |

Melanie,
Yes, I did notice the 'flip'...and it worked magnificently from my perspective. This is a strong image...the grunge you mention as part of the title is fitting and is well displayed by the use of IR. You should be very pleased with this one! |

Jack, I DID notice the impression of wind, and maybe it's due to my own frequent visits to this spectacular natural part of California. The sands blowing across the road caught my eye. I think the treatment of this image, the toning, the composition...all make for a powerful presentation and a most worthy capture. Great work, Jack. |

Welcome Antje...very happy to have you join our friendly and helpful group. I am also delighted to see your color IR image. The subject matter is fantastic, and the crop is very appropriate in my view. Look at the same image after Darken/Lighten Center preset is applied from Nik Color Efex Pro and also look at the difference in detail in both the clouds and the foreground grasses with the application of NIK Color Efex Pro > Detail Extractor. For my eye, both filters add to the overall impact of the image. See if you agree. |

Ernie, I like this very much and feel you have very effectively used the software to make an enhancing composition. The infrared spectrum has added an aura to this scene along with your excellent post processing techniques. Well done. |

Palli,
The bush offers the viewer a wonderful collection of textures in a subject very suitable to the use of infrared. The post-processing is superb in my view. Without a defining element or center of interest, I find it lacks the necessary impact to be a strong competition image but would work wonderfully in a story about the Angahook Forest or even a PSA Portfolio on the same! |
