Ernie...I'm just the opposite of you...foliage is my closest friend in IR! Isn't it wonderful we can take the same medium and apply it creatively to our own art forms! Bravo to creativity! Jack has mentioned a few times to us that he's for the more subtle use of IR and isn't wild about the harsh blacks and whites that are possible...and it's caused me to really think about using IR much more broadly than I was previously considering. |

Thanks Ernie...
A valuable learning for me, and for all of us, is how valuable our constructive feedback can be, regardless of your level of photographic experience and background. That's why the DDG's and DSG's are so important and valuable to PSA. |

Palli,
I asked Jack and Melanie to please read this too. I really took to heart ALL your feedback comments and reprocessed this image. To be specific, I darkened the highlights and lowered contrast in the highlight areas, applied a Detail Extractor mask to the highlight area, burnt in the shadows of the trees a bit on the picket fence, darkened the corners, dodged the tree trunks, then applied NIK Dfine to reduce digital noise. I also cropped some off the right per Jack's guidance. I think the adjusted image is much stronger technically...and I will be anxious to see if you agree. Thanks all for the feedback. |

Wonderful...masterful...I really enjoy this image, Palli! The brown toning...for sand (!) is a perfect touch. The border treatment, a plus in my view. This is an image begging to be entered in competition or hung in a gallery showing! |

Melanie,
In my view, this is a wonderful application of infrared and a fine seascape. I do think, however, that adding the Darken/Lighten Center from Nik Color Efex Pro creates an image with greater drama and impact. See if you agree with the adjusted image attached. |

Jack...I like it, just the way it is! Tastefully processed, and the toning you used seems to fit well. The only thing I'd say about the image overall is that it doesn't convey high impact in my opinion. Still, it's very well captured and presented to us. |

Hi Ernie,
A hearty welcome to DDG66! We are really happy to have a fellow lover of IR join our little group.
I feel this image is so very impressive due to how you've treated the blacks and whites. They are bold and rich, using the full scale of tones. The ominous sky adds to a great mood in this image in my opinion. Well done. |
