Hi Everyone...I suggested to you I'd give some feedback on my last image in DDG66...the IR of the crocodile in the grass by a river. I offer this not as 'sour grapes', a reaction, or a negative toward judging. Rather, I'd just like to inform you about how IR images can be very well, or very poorly, accepted in international exhibitions. It might help your thinking or your personal perspective on the medium when considering entry. I love IR and will continue to use images in salons, knowing full well that the results could be a roller-coaster of ups and downs. In particular, the croc recently was in a 4-salon Circuit exhibition in Singapore. Here were the scores in each, with the number after the hash (/) sign indicating the score required for the image to be ACCEPTED:
14/17 7/14 9/14 12/17
The image wasn't close to an acceptance. It doesn't mean it's a bad image, but it means that this particular grouping of judges were not impressed with a black crocodile sitting in white grasses by a river with white lily pads and foliage! And life will go on!

Palli...stunning view from my perspective. Well done. One minor suggestion...clone out the patching on the roadway coming into the lighthouse. Also, might I suggest lightening the clouds with Nik Viveza. Please see the very hastily done adjusted version for your consideration. |

Melanie,
I've seen this area in photos before, and I never find them boring! Fascinating place. For my eye, the real composition is the left tree and brightly lit dune behind it. The right hand side in shade detracts from the impact in my view. I wonder if you were to the right of this scene and taking the first tree as a vertical against the dune? Maybe you have another frame like that? |

Nathan...I really like the colors that this IR presents. It's a very different view/interpretation of the medium from those of us shooting primarily monochrome IR. There is some pixelation or artifact generation in the sky areas. If this was a RAW file to begin the processing, perhaps this would have been mitigated. If indeed you were shooting RAW, the post has added something to the sky that some might find distracting. |

Craig,
The image is intriguing and well processed, but I personally don't quite see the value added with the duotone. The different tone of the bricks on the left are conflicting to my eye. |
