If you are using lightroom, use your graduated filter to isolate the sky and then use the sliders to get the look you want. It is really a matter of practice and trial and error. In the foreground , I used a soft brush to highlight ( increased exposure) the areas that that I belive would catch the sun rays as the sun rises over the landscape. You can brush in some color on the ice by warming up the temperature and playing with the other sliders.
On looking at the photo again, I would try and work more highlights into the foreground to try and direct the eye through the foreground toward the sunrise. It would be fun to play with it. |

Nice beach image. When you added more foreground the leadinf lines in the sand leads my eye to the bench on the left. Was that your idea? |

Yes, I think if you clone out the white lines in the foreground it improves the photo. |

It looks like a very cold morning. I like the foreground because it gives some depth to the image. Some ideas for enhancement would be to add more drama to the sky and add some highlights in the foregound to simulate the rays of the sun catching higher areas on the ground. Warm up the ice in the foregound to catch the color reflected from the sky. The attached photo works on those ideas. |

Nice shot. I like the color. You might try a little vignette. |

Margaret, I do hand hold the camera for the portraits because I am shooting in the field and most of the time there is no space or time to set up a tripod. Also, I like the flexibility. I am starting to use a monopod for some events when I use heavier gear ( longer lens). |

Bev, I think the stroke around the edge looks nice. It really depends on the final use of the image. Thanks. |
