Following the discussion of the man behind the scale ... for me it becomes a matter of tension. I sense an uncomfortable tension and prefer the empty space above the scale. Is tension the correct terminology? Take the man out and my eye flows easily from the butcher, the sign scale and the man smiling in the background. |

This is all interesting and I find the 18-35mm to be comfortable. Perhaps becuase the closer I am, the more intimate the picture. |

Because I appreciate and have learned much from our group I continue this particular dialog with some thought. Comparing the two versions I see the immediate focus on the young girl, the subject. Does the original version provide a comfortable space in front of the subject? First the eye moves from bottom left up, catching a bubble or two, and right and circle around and settle on the subject?
Please continue dialog and comment. |

A pig smiling at me the viewer. Cute. There seems to be more going on and the human interaction and attention is hidden from view. Adding the vignette does help to draw attention to the pig. |

Wow Gloria! I think it took courage to step up and take this picture as I would have been frightened of loosing my fingers. He is serious about his pork being "simply the best." I agree with Isaacs Photoshop version and I like the butcher up front with machete and fresh meat telling the story. |

It's a powerful image Ed. The tweaks made by Isaac have helped to better see the facial expressions and the now straightened pillars seem to have helped add strength to the image. I'm curious, in Isaacs version … was the entire image straightened? The graduated filter … was that somehow done in Lightroom or in camera? |

Isaac, California in Amsterdam on a cold day with coat, gloves and boots. Even the women's face appears cold, perhaps wind burn. The man in the background walked by a vacant, unlocked bike. Indeed a great catch and juxtaposition. Did you consider b&w? |

Liz, you have beautifully captured seating comfort outside of a home and yes, we have seen this art form from you in the past. Truly art and I love it. I like the composition, slightly off center and to the right giving us space to enter the pic from the left, up in a sort of circle and then back down to the couch. The lines of the picket fence and the trim work of the porch above strengthen the composition. I find the neighboring home and its utility boxes distracting yet it's a strong composition, I love it and look forward to more. |
