You are right, it doesn't look as nice as it is in color. You would have done it in Black and white if it would have been good that way. |

The mono image solved a lot of issues! I would be tempted to lighten it a bit and add a touch of contrast, but it's a great environmental portrait of your neighborhood almost-lifelong project. |

I think there are a million compositions your abstract. It's a fun one! In your latest version, I feel my eye "falling off" the page, as there is an edge to the bottom of the image, which is bright and attracts our eye. You have great "boundaries" everywhere else in the composition. You might consider extending the bottom crop to create more of what Jean indicated in her version (or even mine). |

I think you've made some nice adjustments! The crop helped a lot. I would love to see a monochrome image, as you are so good with those! |

Yes, that's what I was thinking, with the sky at a low opacity. I can't wait to see it! |

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions on this image that I was struggling with.
Jean, thanks for your suggestions to add more interest to the bird. I didn't do a 1x1 because I want the bird to have room to fly into, but I did crop off from behind her. Does she look better now?
Sunil, your front branch removal was a lifesaver! It moves me into PSA Color (can't remove in PSA Nature), but I removed the front branches and some other little branches that were cluttering the scene. She looks like she is flying off a tree now.
Kathryn, thanks for the idea to crop from the end to allow the bird more space to fly into! I darkened the entire background, which I think minimized the white trees a bit.
Ed, feel better soon! If you take the home tests for Covid and are positive (2 tests, 3 days apart), you can get a very helpful drug to knock it out quickly and not have months of dragging. Do you like the revisions to the image?
Pei-Fan, I lightened her eye, did I lighten it too much? I also darkened the branches a bit, along with the sky. Does it look better.
This was a great learning experience, as I realize I like this image because its a rare bird and good image of her. However, I now realize its not a competitive image. With your suggestions I have a nice memory, but I won't be entering her in PSA. Thanks for helping me clarify that! |

Jean, I love your sky change. It's subtle and I like how it "points" to the red building. However, there are not clouds in the water. I'm not sure how to add them in the best way? |

I think you did a great job taking an impossible shot and then bringing it back to life! The cords on the left almost look like Christmas lights, lol.
I think you photographed from a good spot--getting some good lines in the dirt and the reaching "hands" of the backhoes. Great depth and a nice contrast using the yellow and blue as almost a cross-process.
I hope your neighborhood is reassembled soon!

Kathryn, we are thrilled you are here! I thought Jean's idea was very good. I went a different direction and straightened the bottom which gave it a different look. It will be fun to see what else the group can come up with for you.
I like your contrast, lots of angles and depth. It's a great sighting!

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts on the sky and Novia Scotia. Since you are using the original sky, you might crop down a bit to remove some of the boring part and taking us into your subtle evening colors. |

Pei-Fan,
I'm shocked at what a great scene you pulled from the messy bicycle race in your original! I agree with Stephen Levitas that the rain is what makes this shot.
Having a longer lens might have worked better for you. I'm not sure, does the image might need to be tipped to the left just a degree or two, so that the building seems a bit more straight.
Well done, this inspires me to go out and photograph a bicycle race!

Sunil, good for you to want to document such an historic piece. I love that "Whisky" is spelled differently today--"Whiskey".
It looks like the spout is dark, from whiskey? I'd love to see that more clearly.
I find the background is very distracting. Its a great time to use the new depth of field on Camera Raw or Lightroom. My suggestions would be to desaturate the red slider and the overall slider. Not a complete desaturation, but just enough the pitcher is the most vivid.
And this might be a black and white option, as you are the master of that!

Jean, Lovely, peaceful image! Definitely love that you removed the leftmost building. The reflections are nice. It would have been wonderful if you also caught the second building's reflection, too.
A couple of minor suggestions. If you use Object Aware to pick the green building, you can add some contrast and clarity and maybe texture and maybe a touch of additional exposure, so this building pops in a similar manner to the red building.
My second suggestion involves sky replacement, which could elevate your image even more. If you haven't done sky replacement, there are tons of free videos. I use all my own skies but there are lots of free ones in Photoshop. If you haven't done sky replacement and want to Zoom with me, I am happy to walk you through it.
I've not been to Peggy's Cove and Novia Scotia, did you enjoy it?
