Thanks so much, Jacob! I'm thrilled the crop and flower work okay for my very wet subject! I especially like the raindrops fall off his tail feathers. |

One of my favorite places! We are back there again this fall, so I'll work on a sunset image. We were there during very rough water and all my pix are very crooked! I love the sky and golden rocks in contrast. |

Hi Geoff, The ROPA ratings are actually a PSA thing, so you can qualify for the titles, too. The first award is QPSA--Qualified PSA, for 54 acceptances in PSA International Competitions. Here's a link to give you an idea. Once you compete for your stars, then you can use your points to get different titles. My email is BrendaFishbaugh@gmail.com if you want some help with international competition. |

Thank you so much, Pierre! I appreciate your thoughts on the directing lines. I looked up the evening grosbeak, quite a different relative, but also cool! |

Aren't they sweet?! Lovely capture! A couple of ideas for you: the first is to open the shadow on the eye of the left corella, so we can connect to her.
I also like Pierre's idea of removing some branches if you aren't competing in PSA nature. And I think Pierre's idea of a title with "Gossip" in it is very cute. "Corellas Gossiping", maybe. |

I think this is the best image you have shared with us! I think the fly and flower are nicely separated, because the fly is higher. It's wonderful that its facing us.
My suggestion is that the fly needs to be sharpened a bit, as its a little soft. I would "Select Subject" in Lightroom and then choose vibrance and sharpen. I would use your brush as a layer and sharpen the center of the flower, too.
Great job! |

Oh, I didn't see the water droplets at first, I was so taken by the duckling's cute demeanor! Really interesting with the ripples at the front of the duckling, I think it adds a lot. I like how unusual it is with the dark background, as we usually see ducks in a lit environment. Very clever, as always! |

Wow, what a surprise, Pierre! Fabulous color! I love your composition. A couple of things to try--I might flip the image, so the fly is flying out of the image.
I would love to see the fly a bit sharper and maybe the red/orange of his eyes brought up. Right now the sharpest part is the top part of the flower and not your fly. Good job! |

Hi Mervyn, a great example of the tight bond of bison. They are very family oriented. The bison seem a bit centered in this image. We don't have your original to see if you have some more sky to show the vastness of the area and lend some perspective?
For myself, it seems a bit dull, just a tad washed out. Maybe a NIK filter, or Topaz would bring it more to life and really show off the sweet mother and child reunion. |

Thanks, Jason! It was a very fun shoot, and I was so shocked I didn't have a zillion winning images of all their wallabies, zebra, camels, miniature horses, odd cows, and such. Usually, its the opposite, you think you didn't get anything and there are some gems.
I'll go back and see what I need to do to catch some more captivating images. |

I think its super sweet, Jason! I definitely like the crop so I'm not looking into the bright sun, but I know its there. And the building still looks run down, but not so distracting that it looked like it was going to collapse on your pup!
My only additional comment would be those bright white vines on the right that look like a rope attached to your dog. In my world, they would disappear. LOL.
Very different from your other images, in a magical, mystical way. Congrats! |

Thanks, everyone! I was pretty sure this shot was not going to be a winner, and everyone confirmed that. I appreciate the honesty! I did love what Jim and Mitch suggested, and did make a copy, and worked on making the left neck look like it belonged to the animal as a "Two Headed Llama" horror movie that Terry referenced. I think the B/W treatment helped it a bit. It was a fun creative project, but I still agree its not one of my superstars. Here's my Saturday photo project/lesson-- |

Mitch, I've tried to photograph this area, and yours is a huge improvement over my attempts. I was also troubled by the tower leaning, but after seeing Terry's straightened version, I think there is a lot more power in the tilt...and the towers DID fall over, so it does have that energy, too. I could argue for the blue sky or the mono version or Terry's light sky, so you can try all versions and see which does the best. Or keep the one you like the most, if you aren't competing. The rose seems a bit blue, and I wasn't sure if it was intentional or not. So maybe go with white, to avoid a distraction. This is very powerful!! Well done! |

Adorable! My only additional comment is that there is a white leash? vine? between the pup and the shed. I'd remove that, as he looks tied up. I love the dandelion puffs in the foreground! |

Yikes! Steve and I are ex PADI scuba divers also, we dove in the Caribbean for decades. My heart attack in 2012 stopped our diving adventures, as the underwater pressure stresses the heart.
I hope these are nurse sharks, but I'm thinking black tips? GREAT image, and like everyone, I was fooled. A couple of suggestions. There is a diver behind the far right shark and I don't see how he helps the image? In my opinion, its stronger with just the one diver, all alone. And I missed the shark coming up behind the diver until I saw Helen's comment. Perhaps you can make him show up a bit more to add even more tension. GREAT JOB! A winner! |

Helen, with the mirrorless cameras, what you see is what you get. This kind of mistake never happens again! It's fabulous! Save your pennies! But mirrorless is way better in every way. It's a game changer.
Terry's crop is a good improvement. Mitch is correct on the distortion. If you have NIK, they have a great architectural program. You watch a couple of videos and then its magic!
International competition is ridiculously difficult, Terry might give us a better idea of how this would do. It would be in Color Open against a lot of exciting images with powerful stories.

Looks like we all have the same thoughts. I'd recommend losing the barrel as it competes with the home. I like Mitch's crop and I'd definitely brighten the ranch and add contrast so we really see it. The road could benefit from some contrast and texture. I love the clouds and hope they make their way back in to your scene. Lovely place and great capture! |
