Yes, you are absolutely correct, Dean! I was on a tripod and just recording their feeding, having no idea the parent was going to turn and leap into space. Foolish of me not to have a higher shutter speed, especially with a 1000mm lens! |

Mervn, congrats on all your new gear!! Thanks for your comments and glad the wing blur isn't too much. I've just completed a birding workshop, so if I have another chance, I think I could do even better with this shot. Thanks! |

What????? Those are people??? That is a huge cave and a very wide lens to get all that in! What an incredible place!
In my opinion, it seems a bit saturated, which shows up on the tree and the streak below the tree has an odd color.
I'd look to lightening up the people a bit so we see them and get that reference. I would love to see this place! |

Jacob, Nice job! The concrete line behind the flowers is really distracting. I would suggest darkening it down. Next time, you might look around and see if there is a way to get a cleaner background--all the images this month give you that "no disruptions in the background" feeling.
You might also look at desaturating the green, as it looks oversaturated.
"SnapSeed" is considered to the best cell phone free software. it is made by NIK, which makes great software for DSLR and mirrorless cameras. it does incredible things and it is quite complex. Some great videos with Rad Drew. He's an Indiana photographer, located near you. |

Candy, so funny about his little fish! Great light on his far wing, head and I love his beautiful gold Snowy feet. I might lighten up the water drops by his feet just a touch. It's a great image, as always! |

Oh, love your yellow warbler! What a great scene in with the cherry blooming with just a bit of yellow in the flowers. Fab!
I think you've done a great job showing off the warbler. If you have just a tiny bit more room for him to look into, that might help make it a tad less busy and make it just a bit more peaceful.
Adore this capture! |

Beautifully done, Dean! So did your bird ranch set up flashes to stop the hummers wings? And maybe a background so its a blur?
It's a lovely, clean image, even if it was a "setup" (I was in Texas at the same time at a "setup" birding site).
A couple of tiny tips--maybe lighten the catchlight just a bit, as the eye seems a bit dark. And I might heighten the green on the hummer just a bit to show it off just a bit. |

Mervyn, I love your close up of an egret chick! The parent's legs and feathers make a great frame. So lucky that the baby beak has some separation from the adult's legs. It's really a lovely shot with the baby beak being the only color. Your new lens is paying off! Congrats! |

Terry, I made some changes that you suggested. I did the looser crop, but did not desaturate the back. Additional thoughts? |

I made a wider crop with the entire horse and rider to the fence posts, as suggested. I didn't whiten the fence, so I'm hoping its not as bright as before. Any additional suggestions? |

I have to say this didn't do much for me the first couple of times I saw your b/w version. However, I'm happy to say, its growing on me! And it really clicked when I saw Jim's version with less contrast, as it seemed a big too stark to me. And I do like Jim's crop, as my eye really does "like" it better. Good on you, Mitch, to try something new!

Jason, I really love the mood. I had a gray horse like this as a child, and we often had light like this with pollen in the air.
I think I like Terry's flip, as it gives the horse a lot of room and it brings us to the flowering tree.
Very sweet image and the backlight is a nice treat. |

Super fun image! I think you've gotten a lot of great thoughts from our guys and Stephen. I do like his feet showing, as his belly and fun and his fun legs and feet.
I think your blur will work out well on a different pic, I'll look for it in a future entry! |

Such a shame to see such pollution. I didn't notice the three forms of transportation until Jim mentioned it, but I think that's really interesting! I also like Jim's idea of removing the poles.
One of your great monochrome images. |

I love this image! I think Terry's and Mitch's ideas are great. I do think that after you darken the water a bit, you might need to lighten your buildings just a touch.
I've used a highlights brush in Lightroom and just added a couple of "dots" on the buildings instead of long brush stroke. it works really well. |

Thanks for all the great points, Terry! I never would have noticed her arm "missing", as that's where you hold the reins on an English horse. But she certainly could mimic her husband to add to the pic. |

Mitch, I think I could easily make this happen with a few tries! These are highly trained animals. Great idea! Thanks! |
