Mervyn said what I was going to! Love it, lighten it a tad. Your best yet! |

Oh! I have photographed a pileated a couple of times, but they don't look as sweet as this! I agree that Mervyn's crop is a good idea.
I might sharpen just the bird with your Select Subject in Lightroom. Let me know if you need more details on how to do that. |

I love your butterflies! If you are not competing in a Club or PSA Nature, you can take out all the twigs, and "clean it out". What a great capture! |

I like how this adds the tension that the squirrel is now on a tight ledge! |

Incredibly nice! Where did you photograph him and where was he--in tree? on the nest? A golden eagle juvenile?
Great detail in his wing pattern. A couple of thoughts...perhaps flip him so he's looking out of the photo? I think you can trim a tan off the top, as all his energy is looking straight ahead. And I might lighten his eye just a tad, so we really appreciate that focus!
Bravo! |

I think its a great squirrel capture! Nice with him standing so we see the light belly and brownish tail. Nice whiskers and eye catchlight are lovely. And look at his cute toes!
If you have a tiny bit more room to give his face for him to look into, I think it would make a stronger composition. |

Good point, Terry. I want to enter it in our local Club, but its judged by a PSA judge and they hunt all over each pic for signs of cloning or other no-no's. And I'd like to enter it in PSA Nature. But I have a new alligator I think you guys will like much better than this guy. I'll put it up for March. We are off in February! Woot! |

Mitch, just want to say that you definitely have been to the perfect places for top photography since you joined us-bears, whales and now the aurora! Good on you! |

I think you've made some nice improvements! I might use a radial filter in Lightroom on the man to make him a tiny bit brighter and more lively. |

Terry, I've dropped saturation. See my changes below. Do you still feel more above would be helpful? I'm worried it will just be too busy and he won't show up at all. Thanks for taking a look! |

Thanks, Jason! I did de-saturate, do you like this version better? I do have room to add more nose room for him, but a bunch of reeds start getting in the way, which I can't remove for nature. But happy to add it if you think that adds to it. |

Thanks, Jim. I followed your advice. Do you like the new version below better? Alligators do hide, I liked how well he was hidden. But maybe that doesn't make a strong subject? Maybe with a title like, "Can you find the alligator?" |

Thanks, Mitch. Glad you got to enjoy the Everglades. I've added a less saturated version. I can crop from the left, but I just love those back bone joints, and how he blends with the lines of moss. Jason also suggested the same crop you did. Like this version better? |

Certainly a consensus that my alligator was too bright. He was meant to be hidden, its what they do, and it takes a sharp eye to find them. Note how his back has mossy stuff on it, they go under and come up in junk as camouflage.
I do have room in the original if you think he should have more nose room, as Jason suggests.
Is the new color more pleasing and does the gator stand out a bit more? Any additional suggestions? |

I agree it is impressive! When I looked at the image before I read about it, I kind of missed the dissolving roots, I thought it was just branches in front of it. As a non-musician, I also thought this might be a cello or bass, as it looks so big filling up the woods.
If I were to make a suggestion, it might be to add a bit more tree roots or branches to the bottom left portion of the violin, so the transformation would not be missed by the casual observer.
Is "The Roots of the Violin" stronger than "Violin Roots"?
So thrilled you are working so creatively in your photography! You have mad skills, Terry! |

I think its a strong story, as we all asked, "What happened next?!" I agree that sharp dog eyes and faces, done very carefully, will make this even more dramatic. Especially the far left dog, engaging with the child.
My doctor friend has Belgian Shepherds. They make great cadaver dogs. He feels that as a doctor, its best if he finds the dead body of the kid out in the woods, and not someone that hasn't had decades of experience with such trauma. |

Oh, Mitch, good on you to do -20 degrees for a photo. I'm too much of a fair weather photographer! Congratulations! I love Jim's fix with the brighter snow and darker tent window. I like the tracks, as it does lead us to the aurora! I would be tempted to selectively saturate the aurora and maybe darken the sky to have the aurora be more spectacular, but that's up to your vision.
For future photography, you can focus on the tent and take that pic, then take a second with the focus on the AB, and layer them and brush them to get one. That way, it is the way you saw it, and both are in focus.
Again, congrats! Another item off your bucket list! |

Love the b/w. Great job! I agree taking down the over-exposed areas will be important. This feels like a poster for travel or a winner in Minimalism. It might be my favorite of yours! Very impactful! |

What a great photo. I like your depth of field, all the interesting artifacts. I really like his hand on the book and how that ties him to the objects on the desk. I think you've lighted it really well. I like Sunil's crop idea, but I think yours also works. |

Thanks so much for your thoughts, Sunil. I am glad you like teh crop and eye. The last two months, the general advice has been to add more "pop". so we'll see if the consensus is that I added too much! |
