I appreciate it, Mervyn! What was the name of the bird sanctuary where we photographed together 2-3 years ago? Is it open now?

Mervyn, before I crop off my cypress knees, I wanted to try lightening them and I also unsharpened them. Better? Worse? Thanks! |

Candy, thanks for the tip on the shadows and low ISO. Do you think I'm making progress on my 2/13 version utilizing everyone's suggestions?

Dean, take a look at my 2/13 version--I tried to remove some of the crunchiness. Would love your opinion! |

Oh, lots of great feedback! I've cropped and put the horizon and sun on the Thirds. I've darkened the blown out parts of the sun--too much? I've lightened the cypress knees--believable? I also used my adjustment brush in Lightroom to hopefully tone down the "crunchiness"--I removed sharpness, reduced clarity and texture off of much of it. Does that make it look soft in some areas? I painted in a vignette on the left side, since I had cropped away my vignette on the left. Additional thoughts? |

I like all the suggestions made and Isaac's version is great. What a wonderful bird and a great gesture! I would like a touch more room on his tail...the left side seem a tad tight to me. |

I think Candy's and Mervyn's points are great. Another option might be to use Lightroom's Profiles or Presets and add some interest to it.
I believe the mowed grass in the background would keep this out of PSA Nature's competition, but its fine for our Nature + group. |

Pierre, thanks for removing the stick. And I think Isaac went one better removing the dead brush. Fun photo! |

Wow, just breathtaking! I thought it might be a ed caterpillar of some such insect. Great diagonal lines and wonderful color with the green and orange against black. What wonderful texture. An inspiration to us all! |

She is looking like a llama with her frustrated face! Ha ha! There is a stick on the right of her ear that I might remove, as it looks like it is sticking her. Being picky, I might brighten her catch lights a bit. I have had amazing luck with the latest version of Topaz DeNoise, and that might help with a bit of the noise in the background and the fur (if you own it). |

Dean, this might be my favorite photo of yours! Great leading lines with the clouds and some great yellow/blue complementary colors. Being super picky, I am troubled by the little rock on the right, it seems to break the line to the sun. Perhaps a bit of opening the shadows on the far right to see a tad more beach and trees--not sure if it would help or hurt. Do you have your original to share? Gorgeous! |

A very nice trio! It motivates me to try to get a similar shot with the ibis near us. If you are not entering this in PSA nature, I would remove the stem at the foot of the ibis with his head tucked. And there is some grass between the other two that is a bit distracting. I love the triangle the ibis create and the water ripples help the composition. Awesome capture! |

Helen, I did darken the sky--thanks! And what do you think of the moon and straighter walls? Is the dirt below believable? I appreciate your ideas! See my latest on 2/12. |

Thanks for all the great advice! I've straightened the walls, too much? I've taken down the "sharpness" from the HDR and I've added a moon. I've only shot this moon and a half moon, is it believable? I added some room on the bottom on the photo and added some "dirt". Is it believable? Additional suggestions? I'm learning a lot from all of you! |

Abdo, Congrats on your new vehicle! A great capture of a gull and the diagonal line is nice. It's great that the sky/ocean line don't go through his head. You have a nice catchlight in his eye. His belly seems oddly yellow?
Were you on a tripod? Perhaps some noise reduction like the new Topaz DeNoise AI to help the sky? May we see your Out of Camera photo to compare? |

Terry, you never cease to amaze! Love the idea!! Maybe if her shadow kind of bobbed up and down just a touch instead of a straight line? I do understand what Helen is saying about the lantern not showing well with the brilliant window, but I don't see an obvious solution. Incredibly clever! |

Terry, the high pass definitely helped. Do you think she could use a high pass and enter in PSA Nature? When I read the rules, you can only do what you could do in a dark room, so basically just dodging and burning and cropping. You've entered a lot more than I have, so I would love your take. Thanks! |

Fantastic capture and I do agree with the crop! I really love the bird and the mouse! Terry's high pass really helped, since you had a really slow shutter speed. I'm not sure you can run a high pass and enter in PSA Nature, I'm going to ask Terry about that. Ohhhhh, it would be so fun to visit you in a couple of years and get a shot like this! |

I definitely like the flame, but I would love to see smoke as a possible addition. You can google "Photoshop smoke brushes" and download some free ones. Make sure to put them on a separate layer and then use gaussian blur to soften it. How did you create your "creative filter"? |

I'm not sure I want to make the sky darker, as "blue hour" is supposed to make a better shot than "night". But I do like your idea of where to put the moon. I'll work on it and repost! |

Terry, thanks for suggesting I skew the Colosseum, and I love the moon added! The first floor has gates on the doors, which is the dark squares. I'll see if I can remove them since they distracted you. I'll get back with my updated version! |
