69 Nov 20 Reply Thanks, Candy! Is the skyline and tree line believable? Nov 29th

69 Nov 20 Comment I'd love your thoughts on this latest version, where I used everyone's suggestions and I cropped out the bright foreground and brought the sky lower, so we didn't have much light pollution? Personally, it seems a lot more dull, but does it read better to you? Nov 29th
69 Nov 20 Comment Sorry, this must have been added after I had made my comments on the others! I agree with everyone's comments--gotta get rid of the busy stems and bright spot and focus our eye on the star of the show. Nov 29th
69 Nov 20 Reply Ahhh, its a Southern giraffe! Thanks for sharing the orignal! I like your crop and that you removed the bushes off the male's back. You can tell he's a male from the large forehead protrusion, called an ossicle. There are some out of focus or partially removed grass stems on the left side of the photo and some out of focus grass on the female's torso you might want to remove. Lucky sky! Wish I had been there! How did you get such a low angle? Nov 12th
69 Nov 20 Comment What a lovely bird, beautiful lighting, and a great composition. I would love to see your original and hear about what changes you made to the photo.

Being nitpicky, I might crop a bit off the top to move the wren off the center line. And perhaps burn down the outside reeds so we keep our eye on your sweet bird.

So well done! Bravo!

69 Nov 20 Comment How great to create a beautiful composition from a broken weed. The "broken" really creates two wonderful diagonals, and the sharp turn really holds me in the composition. I love how you cropped off the "blue water" on the bottom and how we can see the green "lines" in the water behind the weed. It almost looks like motion blur or that you added texture. Brava for turning a dead thing into a fascinating photo! Nov 7th
69 Nov 20 Comment Hi Pierre, what is TIFFT Farm? I'd love to see your original and hear how you processed your Virginia Rail. I'd love to see one!

Your bird seems a bit too centered to me. I would be tempted to remove a lot of the top reeds that are distracting. I'd think about removing the stalk in front of him, if you aren't entering it in Nature.

Did you lighten around his eye? It seems unusually bright and the rest of him is in shadow. Maybe a radial filter to gently lighten him?

It looks like you were able to get very low, which is good!

69 Nov 20 Comment Ah, Masai giraffes! I'm interested in how you got such a low, unusual angle, where you are even in the grass?

Nice composition and nice lines with the giraffe necks. I'd love to see your original and your details in how you processed it.

78 Nov 20 Comment Thanks for all your feedback on my happy accident! I tried several crops, but really only loved the more panorama crop that I posted (and am resposting here). I did run Sharpen AI, Terry's idea--and that did help crisp things up. Side story--I could not get my Topaz DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI to work, I've had huge updating problems for several months. I messaged them and got GREAT customer service. I had to do a bunch of steps they recommended and got it going--they reset my "ownership" for another year, since I had been stuck for a few months. My fault I hadn't reached out earlier, but thought that was impressive. With the small version, you can't see too much of the Sharpen and DeNoise, but it worked very well. I am going to enter it in our local club and in PSA Color, I'll let you know how I do!

78 Nov 20 Reply Great point, Terry! Good catch! Nov 8th
78 Nov 20 Comment Very interesting, Jim! Lots of contrast and definition--I like the rough grass and dramatic sky and falling down cabin. I agree with Helen that it seems to have an odd skew to it, but I see it in the original also. You don't say what your wide angle lens mm was, but probably very wide, which can distort.

I do like Terry's ideas of adding a subject to take us to the cabin and softening the clouds a bit. Was this an HDR?

This reminds me a bit of my jungle pic a few months ago, where the path needed a panther on it to add interest and anchor it.

78 Nov 20 Comment Wow, one of my favorites of yours. Super crisp for f5.6! I especially like how bright and vivid the reds are. What technique did you use to bring the reds out?

Some small suggestions-- the subjects seem a bit centered. I might leave a bit more in front of the subjects so they have somewhere to race into.

Most photographers would flip this, so the subjects go from left to right, like we read. Is there a reason you didn't?

Have you considered a light vignette to keep us in the frame?

78 Nov 20 Comment Jason, I'd love to see your original. I appreciate your always-creative approach, but I'm not connecting with it. It is very intriguing and keeps me looking at it trying to figure it out! and not connecting with Helen's or Terry's suggestions. Maybe if we see your original, we might get inspired and come up with another take. Nov 5th
78 Nov 20 Comment Terry, fun shot! My first impression was that it was too bright. I love what Helen's and Jason's modifications were, as it really toned down the brightness that took my eye away from the really interesting subject and composition. I think it really made the photo feel more old style and timeless. Nov 5th
78 Nov 20 Comment Helen, props for trying completely new and out of your wheelhouse! I think its a great start and much better than I could do! I think you've gotten some great suggestions from Terry and Jason.

I just had a private session with Scott Kelby (!) and he said that I need to make sure the subject is the lightest thing in the photo and to burn down everything else. I think that Jason's advice also suggested this concept.

78 Nov 20 Comment Sunil, one of my favorite photos of yours! And thanks for the history on Al Capone! His cell looks quite posh! As gorgeous as this is, I do like both Terry's ideas to bring up the ccart and add a slight vignette.

I'm interested in your b/w processing. Did you use NIK? I would love to recreate this, if you know your filters or technique.

78 Nov 20 Reply Thanks, Stephen! Yes, it does look like Northern Lights! I love when you stop by! Nov 5th
78 Nov 20 Reply Great idea, Helen! If I understand, your suggestion is to crop on the right, so the trees on the right are halved, and so both sides look similar and create "frame" on the left. Nov 5th
78 Nov 20 Reply Thanks, Terry! I have Topaz and will give it a try! Nov 5th
78 Nov 20 Reply Larry, thanks for stopping by our group! So nice of you! I'm glad you like my happy mistake! Nov 2nd
