Pierre, I copied your idea! Thank you! I've taken the advice and done a tighter crop, a radical rotation and done a color version (with high pass, some flower painting and removing the high pass "halos"), and a monochrome version. Thoughts on the latest? |

Hi Candy, Thanks for your thoughts! Did you happen to see my updated version posted 7/5? Is the stem in the proper place now? And I've removed a lot of the extra twigs that cluttered it up. I can certainly try selective coloring for the flower. |

Here's my next rendition--I've cropped, rotated to create a diagonal, and removed a number of stems. I also darkened everything. Better or worse? Thanks for your thoughts! |

Thanks, Candy. I don't think I had heard about anchoring to the lower right corner before. I appreciate the explanation. |

Nice bright flower! I would love to see a bit more stem, and perhaps turn it on a slight angle, so it wouldn't just zoom straight up the page. This is the advice I was offered on my image this month, and I think it might work well for this piece also.
I like Geoffrey's idea of darkening the background.

Hi Mervyn, its a great moment, especially the one you created.
Beautifully exposed and nice texture. Is it a bit skewed or not straight? it might just be the angle of the bank. I like the flip, but you wouldn't be able to enter it in a nature competition, correct?

It's a really crisp bird, with a lot of energy. I am not wild about the brown/green muddy background, I wonder if this might flip to a great b/w. Here's one quick option. |

Jacob, this is your best yet! Nicely done. Lightroom can't soften your pic unless you chose a setting to do so, maybe you had a softer vignette brush than you needed?
The vignette does seem to be a bit dark on my monitor, but still a very nice treatment. Great flower! Enormous improvement! |

Hi Candy, what an interesting and kind of awkward pose you have captured. Beautifully processed. A couple of questions--I'm surprised you didn't flip to read left to right, can you explain?
Also the tiny water drops are bright and distracting, but do you leave them as they add interest and provide some leading lines? Thanks always for our expertise. |

You've photographed a murder in progress! Wild! Its smart to really crop in tight, so we can watch the murder. I find the sharp Iris (?) on the top left corner is a bit bright. I would try burning the top three sharp edges above the flower just a bit to not draw our eyes off the top. The bright area around the bee actually works well.
I agree with Mervyn that the bottom left is too dark. |

Thanks, Mervyn! I couldn't figure out how to crop it, but your rotate idea opens up lots of options to try! Love it! I'll give it a try! |

Helen, thanks for your suggestions! I use transform a lot for my biz memes, but didn't know other aspects. Here's my latest--how am I doing and what should be my next steps? Did I get rid of the color cast (used Levels)? Does it look a bit skewed still? |

Jason, I hunted around and found Lightroom Discover. It's super cool! I have not seen any promos for it and it took a long time to find it!
Here's the link for anyone who needs it--I pinned it so I can check it a couple times a week.

Abdo, glad you are able to get out and photograph! I love your owl's expression. Is it a juvenile or full grown? Is it very hot in Qatar when you are shooting now?
On my screen, the owl's head, wing and rock are a bit bright, so maybe you can take down the highlights to bring in more detail, if it seems bright to you, also.
I would be tempted to give the owl just a tad more room on the right, if you have the rock available.
Beautiful job, as always. |

Hi Jason, I saw the alien with spider legs right away. Thanks for the Lightroom Discover tip. I've not seen it mentioned by anyone I follow!
It's not one of my favorites by you, but I think its a great example of what we can do creatively in a pic! |

I think the setup and the b/w conversion is done really well and she looks mad...I would not want to mess with Cynthia (your wife?).
I am thrilled you are picking non-mainstream subjects like your woman soul in the water. Are you looking for her to have a big clean up project and not want to do it? Be "witchy" and not want to be bothered? I think either topic works well, but I'm always interested in what the creator wants to convey. |

Hi Helen, So glad you joined us (thanks, Jason, for the recommendation!)!
Awesome clouds, PSA just had a workshop on Cloudscapes--its recorded--very interesting on how to get the best clouds. But you could be teaching it!
I also shoot with a Canon 5D, I have the Mark IV model. What was your lens? I see you shot at f/4. I would have thought that you would have wanted to shoot wide open at f/22 or similar to have such a deep landscape very sharp?
I would not have thought to mention it was too blue until I saw Terry's comments. I do like Terry's brighter version, but its much less threatening. Perhaps somewhere in between could also be interesting.
I love NIK, Topaz, Luminar and many top photographers use plug ins, so I've never heard you can do better without them. There are new "profiles" in camera raw, that are not presets, and many are very good.
I also had a question about your workflow, but I'll wait for your answer to Terry.
Lucky you to be in Africa, and to see and capture such a beautiful and powerful sight!

Sunil, how impressive that you have worked a flawed photo many times to practice and to find what you envision.
I just love this. The perspective fix made a huge difference. I'm not bothered by the soft left hand side of the knocker and left side of the door. You could try a high pass to see if that sharpened it, if you want the left side sharper. I used high pass for the first time on my image this month and Terry used it when he processed mine.
I definitely feel the ancient holiness of the knocker, and how many thousands have touched it over the centuries. Very beautiful and touches my soul. |

Holy Crap! What idiots! And look at that fissure all around the two guys...not a stable surface! YAY for you grabbing this shot before they plunged to their deaths. I think Terry covered it--crop the sky, as it makes it look even more steep, and darken or desaturate the distracting hats and backpack.
You definitely captured THE MOMENT, as I am still mad and scared for them!
What camera and lens did you use? Also, I'm thinking a different title might even be more powerful "Closer to the Edge" or "I'll do anything for the perfect cell phone shot" (LOL).
