Thanks for the Covid story and how it wove into your photography! Such a sweet pic in the midst of fear and sadness. |

Revisiting and still LOVE this! I printed it for my "Photo ideas" file. I also showed it to my husband, (a non-photographer), who could not believe the Before and After. Definitely a big winner with everyone! |

I agree with all of the comments above and its very difficult to use Lightroom and Photoshop with a cell phone pic and make it artistic, instead of just a snap. It's a really nice start! |

Just love this! Sometimes its just the simplest places and shots, instead of traveling around the world. I do agree that the reflections down a bit and a crop would really make this a stunner. The chicks in almost the center horizon line bothers me a bit. Whether you crop from the foreground or background would just be personal preference. Bravo for going out during Covid! |

I think its awesome! Can you discuss what filters you used and what post processing? I'd love to get something like this at some point in the future. What personal protection did you use in focusing, etc.? |

I made the changes suggested--darkened the pond along the left edge, lightened the foreground (it seems much darker here than on my screen) and and moved the horizon line off center. Any additional thoughts on my changes? |

Geoffrey, yours is better than your inspiration because the feather fight really makes it! I think using Select Subject would cut out your birds really fast, but your way worked beautifully. I've printed the whole thread so far, and going to hunt for some photos that this might work well with. I think the white birds work better than a darker animal, but am going to experiment! Thanks so much for taking the trouble to write it all out. Really fabulous! |

It does bring them closer and make them feel larger. I'll look forward to hearing what everyone thinks. I like both versions. |

Geoffrey, BREATHTAKING! Really awesome! Minimizing where we could look was very effective. Could you expand on how you did your separation? and your white vignette? Also, I'd love to see your inspirational photo that won the award. I'd love to try this also, maybe with some Africa pix. |

Wow, you definitely improved a lot from your original and made it much more pleasing from the bleak morning. My attention is definitely on the soft water. Beautifully done. |

So happy you got so much time in Africa. I'm surprised you didn't shoot faster? Its so tough with a moving vehicle (or people moving in the vehicle) and moving elephants.
Love the elephants all looking at us. The horizon line is in the middle, I wonder if removing a bit of the unfocused road would be more pleasing.
Great sky! I'd be tempted to lighten the elephants a bit, since they are in shadow. Lovely! |

Jason, I had the same reaction. Part of it was the thick glasses, which we don't wear here. But I agree that a crisp business shirt or nice casual shirt would have us "read" this a little more quickly without the back story. |

Hi Jason, thanks for your helpful comments! It's usually recommended to not let a tree cut your photo into two photos, and instead, crop so just a sliver of the tree frames the right side. So I'd lose 1/4 of the right side of the photo, which I thought added a lot. Luckily, everyone else agreed that although I was breaking a rule, it still worked. Hopefully, judges will feel the same! |

Well done! I love the gold of the buildings against the blue sky and the white streaky clouds with the silver of the Bean. All crisp and detailed for only an F9. I've been to the Bean several times and there are always millions around! So the sky looked like that and you didn't have to use a slow shutter speed to get the streaks? Certainly possible with the fierce winds off of huge Lake Michigan and lucky for the photographer.
I am undecided about right building cropping options that have been presented, but I do agree with Terry cloning out a couple extra people. I'd be tempted to clone out the folks on the right, 2 people overlap. That leaves a lone person for perspective and more of a story. |

I think the crop, especially, makes it a great photo. I look forward to the other group members thoughts. I've never shot in a cemetery, this gives me some inspiration. |

Abdo, I think eliminating the petal and the stem helped your fly a lot! Thanks for trying Terry's ideas. Can you post your SOC shot for comparison? Thanks so much!

Wow, what an incredible close-up! Can you provide your SOC pic so we can see what changes you made? Do you think that is pollen or water on the fly?
The lower left stem is distracting, I'm not sure you can remove it easily and it does give a bit of dimension and frame the fly.
Is there a bit more room for the fly to move into? |

Jason, its so interesting, and quite different. I bought Luminar 4, based on your ideas last month, so here's my amateur effort with the "Deep Sky" look in Luminar 4. Just a bit brighter, not sure its an improvement. I will revisit this when I get a little smarter how how to use Luminar 4. |

Terry, I think this is a brave photo, especially given our worldwide health crisis. I do really like your post-processing and I do find Richard's crop to keep me more in the composition. The grass is lighter where the bodies are buried, which is eerie. |

What a powerful photo, Richard. Is this you? Can you discuss your process a bit more in depth? You photographed a person facing the wall, and then added the frame (its not the same frame as the two birds, right?). Had you cut out your person as a separate layer? I went to 1x.com, is that where you got your art? I didn't see your heart cloud. Thanks for clarifying. I think this is a wonderful way to show a lot of different emotions, past Covid, and I'd like to know how to execute it. |
