69 Apr 20 Reply Thanks, Jacob! Much appreciated! Glad you liked the latest changes. Apr 24th
69 Apr 20 Reply Very kind of you, Pierre. Thanks so much! Apr 24th

69 Apr 20 Comment I made some additional changes, although I am in agreement that without an interesting subject, this is not a powerful pic. Here, I've stamped out the "light leaks" except for the ones at the end. I've brought the path towards us more, so its narrower (skewed), and I also tried a monochrome for a Nat Geo feel. Thanks for all the feedback! Apr 20th
69 Apr 20 Comment I haven't done any macro shooting, so bravo! I love how colorful everything is and thanks for the blue bonnet info! My eye goes round and round buzzing from flower to flower to flower. My only suggestion is to maybe take a bit of green off the top to tighten the composition a tiny bit more. What a pretty scene! Apr 7th
69 Apr 20 Comment Mervyn, are elephants your favorite African animal? They are my husband's favorite and he loved this, especially the wet face of the center elephant. Apr 7th
69 Apr 20 Reply Hi Candy, Glad you see an improvement from the original. Mervyn and Dean suggest that I need a subject for the composition to be "complete". What is your thought on that? Apr 7th
69 Apr 20 Reply I,for one, am glad I did not see any panthers! I was a docent at an animal park for a decade, and know that cougars are the #1 most efficient killer pound for pound. Lions hunt in prides to bring down a little zebra, but a cougar (generally bigger than a Florida panther) can bring down a moose by breaking its neck from jumping on it from a tree.

I believe we would never see a panther or a cougar, you'd just be dead. Maybe the Florida panthers are not as big and don't have the tree advantage a cougar does out west, but I have no plans to test this theory. ;-),

69 Apr 20 Reply Sorry, its a vervet monkey! Apr 2nd
69 Apr 20 Reply Thanks so much for your kind words, Geoffrey. Glad you like it :-) Apr 1st
69 Apr 20 Comment Beautifully done, Geoffrey! Great pose with a fantastic catch light in his eyes. His twisted legs and the curve in his tail are awesome. I'm a little distracted by the bright leaf under him that could be darkened, as well as the dirt in front. And there is a root on the left side that is quite bright. I wouldn't burn it too much, as it nicely echos the money's tale. A Capuchin monkey, I think. Apr 1st
69 Apr 20 Comment Candy, The flip was a great choice, you are the master of that (and so much more)! Where were you to be so high over the beach? Not my fave pic, but you did a nice job creating interesting lines. Apr 1st
69 Apr 20 Comment Great eye! Nice texture and nice whites in your snow (tough to do). I'd definitely remove the top right little branch. Normally, I would remove the lighter branches on either side of the trunk, but they do become leading lines and add interest. Apr 1st
69 Apr 20 Comment I would leave the mom in the pic, I didn't think cropping them out helped the story. Of course, it is a environmental landscape, so the more, the merrier! It's nice that the two groupings fall on the rule of thirds.

I especially like the blue water and the orange clay as complementary colors. Loved South Africa!

78 Apr 20 Reply Prayers for you to stay safe, Abdo! Your photography is always an inspiration! Apr 29th
78 Apr 20 Reply I bought it and the sky replacement is fantastic! I have to figure out some stuff, its not the most intuitive software, for sure. I have no interest in the library, etc, just some of the cool features like adding in objects and skies and really changing moods. Will report back when I'm competent at it. I've been a bit busy with other things and not given it the time. Apr 29th

78 Apr 20 Comment Jason, what cool renditions! I have a coupon for Luminar. Do you recommend it? Of course, we can't enter any of the pix in competitions if we didn't take the photos. Apr 12th
78 Apr 20 Reply Jason, Happy Easter! Your tighter crop is very interesting and does make us want to see what they are looking at! Apr 12th
78 Apr 20 Reply Thanks for your thoughts, Richard! Will play with it when I'm back in Indiana. Driving for a couple of days! With really big Covid measures!

78 Apr 20 Reply Interesting and fitting right now, Richard. Everyone is just blowing me away with your novel takes on this month's pix! It's really expanding my view of what can be done. Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Thanks, Richard! I agree that keeping the light at the end creates more of a tunnel effect and is less distracting. I would never have thought of using the transform tool to alter a non-architecture type photo, great idea! I thought I had enough light at the end, but your version is much more interesting and really draws me to the end.

What do you think about Terry's and Jim's point that the path leads us to nothing? Obviously, I am not going to have a panther there, as I would have been his lunch!
Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Terry, thanks for your expert portrait advice! I didn't even catch the top of the head issue (more head or less head cropped, but not a tiny bit) and I didn't notice the bare shoulder that provides a light spot and pulls our eyes away from her beautiful eyes! Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Wow, Richard! I would have never thought of that! It adds a powerful leading line into the composition and is grounded b the flowers at the base. A very different "feel", but beautiful and powerful. Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Interesting! I don't have a flip screen, I never thought of how that might give a greater variety of compositions! Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply I wasn't very clear--I was asking if you picked up a fluff and placed it in the composition to add interest, before you shot the pic? Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Wow, I'm not seeing the oddness or imperfections, can't wait to see where this goes with the group dialogue and different versions. Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Thanks for testing out my ideas, Terry! Beautiful job! I am so impressed with all the edits everyone has created, and how each changes the "story". Can't wait to hear which one Sunil likes the best. Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Jim, your changes created a dynamic photo and really increased the leading line effect. Well done!

Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Richard, what a unique take on Sunil's pic. I love what you've done with it--and so impressed you "saw" this from the works we were given. It encourages me to be a lot more expansive with my ideas in my own work. Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply I like the brightening couple/darken background, although it seems a bit overdone on my monitor. I really love the color behind them (so Curacao!), but it does compete for attention. The new crop is really great! Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Reply Jim, I love this rendition, with them looking old but their skin is not distracting me. Best of luck in competition, let us know how it goes! Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Comment Wow, I have to say I like the warm one, the cool one, with foot prints and without foot prints. All are lovely. Apr 7th
78 Apr 20 Comment Abdo, may we see your SOC photo to gauge what changes you made? How exciting you are trying a new camera out for Fuji!

Nicely done and I like that you haven't made her skin plastic-looking (a popular portrait technique these days).

I am not a portrait photographer at all. But if it was a portrait of me (I wish! Especially with the jewelry!), I might like the right eye (her left) a bit more sharpened and a tiny bit more bright to really draw our eye to her.
I would also want my lips smoother. Her lips look dry, which can happen in a photo shoot where you aren't getting much water and time to refresh your lipstick.

You have such a diverse portfolio! Congrats on being able to shoot so many genres!

78 Apr 20 Comment The fluff below the flower makes the photo, did you add it? I do love the dandelion orb and it does feel like its the sun and casting the rim lighting on your flower.

Some tough choices...its a shame that the right hand flower bud is cut off, as it would create symmetry if we had two flowers on either side of your "sun".

And also sad that the left bud is out of focus, although the stem and leaves have some focused spots.

Overall, its artful and beautiful and I'm not sure I would do anything. I'd be tempted to do some selected dodging on the leaves to lighten them up a hair. Can't wait to hear what creative choices the group has for you!

78 Apr 20 Comment So cute! Bravo on getting rid of the chairs--that was a big clone! I do not think I could have done it.

I named your pic for you--but I'm thinking a better title would be something like "Bigger is Better" or something that refers to the big shadow and the tiny dog.

I think I would lighten the pup's eyes a tad, they seem a bit dark given all the beige we are seeing.

Usually we are supposed to shoot at eye level, but I think this works really well and you could pick a title that supports your reason for standing over your pup.

78 Apr 20 Comment Your wait was worthwhile, with a RED jacket walking into your frame! The leading lines and S curve are fabulous. And the zig-zag fences behind add a lot of background interest without being too distracting.

My only concern is the snow seems a little blue on my screen. I am missing my Spyder X screen calibrator. We are moving back north for six months in a couple of days, so hopefully, it will turn up in the packing up. So it could just be my uncalibrated screen.

What post processing did you choose to do?

78 Apr 20 Comment Sunil, I think your composition is really, really interesting. I wish his back was a bit sharper and we had more tonal contrast from white to black. I am going to defer to our top photographers here that will probably have some great ideas for improving it--its well worth working on!

I'm wondering if some dodging and burning would help and if a gradient filter on sky coming from the left would help, but we'll see if there are better solutions from our pros.

78 Apr 20 Comment Jim, bravo for interesting street photography! I love all the subtle colors and how the couple is framed by the green walls and highlighted by the lit shelving. They also make nice bookends, each facing out.

I'm not sure I would have caught they were trying to find where they were, I read the title a couple of times and your description before I figured it out.

My only concern is that it all seems a little crunchy on my screen. The couple's skin is especially wrinkly and some weird yellowing on her chest and their legs (too many cruises...lol!). But the products seem to be a bit over-sharpened, too? Easily fixed, and this is a great travel photo to keep and compete.
