Thanks, Donna. Do you suggest I take down the background more? Should I shoot with a wider aperture? |

Mervyn, Oh, that looks so much better! Thanks for the extra effort! I don't know the history brush, how do you suggest I learn about it? |

Thanks, Geoffrey. I will see what other group members think about the sharpness and then show your suggested crop. |

Wow, what a shot, Donna! I'm not sure what I'm seeing in the white bird (a chick?) as its head doesn't seem to connect to the wings at this awkward angle. Do herons stay in the nest when they are this big? Or are they just in a bush together?
The blue bird (adult?) is breathtaking. So crisp, clean against the blurred background, beautiful detail in the feathers. The tree is also interesting with great clarity.
Beautiful work, as always. I'm impressed you make the effort to have a tripod and gimbal head and a step stool--it certainly shows in your quality captures! |

Pierre, I love the composition. The low vantage point, the spear thistle (open blooms and new blooms are gorgeous), the blurred yellow flower and the unusual sky. Sadly, the butterfly seems out of focus. You might try brushing him with some sharpness and clarity using an Adjustment brush in Lightroom and see if you can make him crisper. Or perhaps you shot some additonal versions of this where we see the front of the butterfly or the butterfly is crisper?
So tough to get a great photo at 840mm handheld on a butterfly! They are always moving! Great effort! |

Dean, this is my favorite photo by you! This is columbine--I'm in Fort Wayne Indiana, if your sister is nearby, it would be wonderful to meet in person.
I'd love to hear how you did your focus stacking--I've not tried yet and I thought it was only for deep landscapes. Fill me in!
Love the colors, the bokeh, the composition. Usually subjects are supposed to be in odd number. Do our other group members think the four flowers work since one flower is turned sideways?
Being super picky, I might brush a bit more sharpness into the center of the photos. |

Oh, wow, is the water really that teal? Just extraordinary! What a great story! The seal seems a little yellow/green, is that natural water reflection or did you bump the vibrancy up and he needs to be masked to remove some?
The seal is dead center, which does work, but I've cropped him a little differently to put him more on the rule of thirds and kept more of the teal water and removed his gray body and out of focus water on this back. Not sure its an improvement, but just a thought. |

Candy, what a great moment...maybe called "The French Kiss". Darkening the messy background and extra sticks really keep us focused on the nesting couple. Great lines with their neck and the feathers are fabulous! |

Mervyn, thanks for planting a butterfly garden! What a gorgeous caterpillar! Very crisp! I looks like you darkened down the highlights, although you didn't say what post processing you did. I'd be tempted to crop in a bit tighter to remove some of the darkened background, and I'd be tempted to darken the two white leaf spots near his antennae. I'm not sure the berries are necessary--if I crop them out, it seems to draw more attention to the interesting leaf lines echoing the caterpillar movement. What do you think? |

Jason, Love your rendition! Glad Richard likes it also. I wasn't in love with Richard's entry, but I think you've made a lovely improvement. |

Thanks, Richard! I like them both, also. It was just a photo for play...zoom blur and some play with blending changes. Just seeing where I can stretch. |

WOW, that is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. Actually, you have inspired ME how you have courageously jumped into photography. If you can do it, so can I! I've shot a half million photos in 8 years and not once changed out a sky! |

I love Terry's square format and ditching the modern stuff. I love this! I think this format shows off the horse's legs action and brings our eyes to the character of the driver. |

Richard, good for you to look for something unique in a common site! I do like Terry's addition of a light layer and gradient to move from dark to light. |

Hi Sunil, I have a Spyder X and calibrate frequently. But I note that the screen looks different in a dark room or when some light is coming in. I do think its a great photo with enough light, but I do like the lighter version a bit better. |

Thanks, Sunil and Jason! I've attached a pic of what I was photographing. It's a moving light show on the ceiling, so it changes every moment. I used zoom blur on my "original", so that I feel that I made it "my own" and not resembling the original artist's work. And then we I used the blending mode, it did become an "evil alien", and even further from the original. Jason, I agree that my first zoom blur "original" is also very interesting with the rope-type triangles. I like your ideas of multiple exposures. I have lots of different zoom blurs, so its certainly a possible exercise. |

Abdo, this is amazing! Would you post your SOC original for us to see? What are the little thin things sticking out of the man standing? I would remove them, unless they are important to the story. Brilliant! I don't have any edits. |

Wow, what a great shot! I love the horses, centered driver and thick trees. I'd be tempted to remove the yellow pillars on the left. Where was this? I think it could be a Ichabod Crane (Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman) scary ride, with a contrasty black and white. Smart of you to kneel, the angle adds so much! Well done! |

Guess what? I know the "waitress" (Katherine McPhee) and her mom (Peisha McPhee) is a friend of mine! I'd suggest removing the light on the right hand pillar. I'd also be tempted to lighten a bit of your guy's chest, he seems to disappear a bit.
Love your shot! Very few London subways still have the brick, its all moved to the white subway tile. |

What a great improvement! I think its really neat that you went to the place Dave photographed! I especially like the starburst. I'd be tempted to lighten the car just a tad more, it almost disappears into the darker scenery.

Alan, your photography is really improving! And great for you to swap out the sky (just know you can't enter it in a nature competition where there can't be any changes). I think it would be a wonderful photo except the sun is so harsh. If you'd shot at dawn or dusk, you'd really have a nice shot. Also, you'd really want a smaller aperture (a bigger number like f/22, to get a really crisp photo front to back. Glad you are liking AI Clear, its really awesome. |
