69 May 19 Reply Hi Dean, I entered it in our little local photo club in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It placed well with the judges, as well as the Club member vote. The categories change every month, so I was able to enter it in "Backyard", as I photographed it in my backyard. Of course, I couldn't enter it in PSA Nature, but maybe in "Open"(I'd need to read the rules). Thanks for asking. May 10th

78 May 19 Reply I like your crop, Terry. It does let the road take our eye and removes the bright tennis courts. How do you feel about this crop, Abdo? May 25th
78 May 19 Comment Thanks for sending the OOC version, Terry! You did a great job with this, its a fun, interesting shot. May 25th
78 May 19 Comment I like both your revised color version and your black/white version. This was wonderful learning about your culture for me. May 25th
78 May 19 Comment Alan, I think you got some great feedback here. I really like Richard's crop, which is very similar to yours, but removes more of the distracting top rail. May 25th
78 May 19 Reply Thanks for your thoughts, Terry! May 25th
78 May 19 Reply Abdo, this is so cool, how did you make the movements, were you carrying the light? Your Milky Way is amazing, too. May 25th
78 May 19 Reply Thanks for stopping by, Beverly! I hope you are well and I appreciate your praise! May 12th
78 May 19 Reply Richard, thanks! I don't think I can be a master with just two attempts--wrapping LED lights around my husband's kayak paddle, and this night my friend invited to me to photograph her model. I certainly love it and hope to do more! May 12th
78 May 19 Reply Abdo, we'd love to see one of your light paintings in a future entry. I've not see anything done in red. May 12th
78 May 19 Reply Wow, thanks, Jason! I appreciate it! May 12th
78 May 19 Comment Jason, love your pup in your photo! Why don't you post it here? Fun comparison!

78 May 19 Comment Terry, Welcome to DD 78! I hope you'll love it here! I'd love to see the original. You can add it in your reply below, or you can email it to me, and I'll post it (it will show up to the right of your original).

I think its a fun shot, and yes, the bus is a must! It's crisp, in focus, and GREAT leading lines. Ideally, I'd love to see a bit more room on the right of the bus, so it has some room to "move into".

I'm bothered by the "halo" or white line on the top of the white building on the right, where it meets the sky. This usually happens when you add clarity or over-sharpen in Light Room. There are some tricks to remove this, you can check out a quick You Tube video to remove. there are tons more videos if you Google it, I just thought I'd provide one I've used.

I love Berlin, I was there only once in 1991 when the Berlin Wall came down, so I'd love to go back!

78 May 19 Comment Jason, did you like Richard's tighter crops? Or prefer your original? I like them all. I am going to try some "dreamy" shots like this while its Spring in Indiana. May 9th
78 May 19 Comment Richard, I just wanted to say that I have visited this shot several times as I have read everyone's comments. I like it even more every time I see it! May 9th
78 May 19 Comment Richard, wow, love all your interesting info about traveling around North Korea. The pic of you finishing the run is fabulous! Good for you!

Seeing your original, I absolutely understand about the desaturated sky. I wonder if the blue roofs are pools?

78 May 19 Reply Thanks for the additional background, Sunil! Super interesting. May 2nd
78 May 19 Comment Abdo, you are the master of night shots! I so appreciate you sharing photos of Doha and Qatar--I did not know it was such an amazing city and country! And I've traveled a lot!

This is beautifully rendered, and even at low resolution, it is really breathtaking. The road leads us into the city and the water on the left holds us looking at all the unusual buildings Doha has. I really like the circular road that rings the city, which keeps our eyes from wandering too much.

Really incredible!

78 May 19 Comment Wow, I can't believe this is a f/stop of 4.0, as the focus dropped off super fast! It must be your 200mm distance from them? The blue bells are beautifully in focus and I love the blur and bokeh.

I normally would suggest taking down the brightness of the green, but it works here as a pic of very early Spring.

There is a flower in the lower right that might want to disappear. Or did you keep him for an anchor?

78 May 19 Comment Richard, welcome back! Sadly, Dave has left our group, as he had a number of obligations. We may have a newbie joining us soon.

Wow, the USA does not allow for us to go to DPR Korea (North Korea), were you concerned for your safety? I was in south Korea on business twenty years ago, and it was very difficult for women--they would only talk sex with us, not discuss buying our products!

Thanks for sharing such an incredible photo and a wild story!

What did you use for your panorama stitching? It almost feels like a pencil drawing. Perhaps this is because we don't expect a city to be in pastel colors like a tropical vacation destination!

I'm not sure the buildings gray on the left serve you, is this to add to the stark contrast of color next to drab? I might crop in a bit more, keeping a bit of water and the dam.

The sky also has a "pencil drawing" feel. You might have wanted this to keep with the look? An option might be to add a neutral density filter to bring in a bit more blue to just the sky.

Fascinating photo, and well done. Thanks for sharing, as I'll probably never get to see it myself.

78 May 19 Comment Sunil, what an interesting composition. I looked up sacred basil (also called holy basil) and it is called Tulsi. I often have Tulsi Tea. I will look for some to grow, as we love growing basil for our food. It was fascinating to learn that it has sacred and medicinal properties. I will have to grow mine outside, no opening in my ceiling ;-).

What is the tall plant grown with the basil? What are the steps used for?

I liked your use of lines... the square within a square, with more squares overhead...within a square. This brings us to the organic plant as our subject.

Well done!

78 May 19 Comment Again, I'm so impressed you keep trying new things! Not only trying black and white, but trying leading lines with your fence.

The photo seems a little "crunchy" to me, possibly over-sharpened. You can post the raw original in the comments, so we can see how much of the over-pixelated feel was in the original. Are you shooting in raw? If shot as a jpg, its very hard to do much in Photoshop or LightRoom without creating an overdone feeling.

What are you attracted to that made you want to take the shot, Alan? Is it the cool mountain behind with sagebrush? The great sky? The natural fence? The old building? Because we don't see much of any of those possible subjects.

I would love to see a shot taken a little to the left, where I get to see the old building and mountain more, without the rough fence pole and the caged tree blocking half of the front of the building. I love that you tried to shoot the fence, but it actually leads us out of the pic, instead of to your subject. You could certainly argue that it does help frame the building on the right and adds value that way.

What did you use for your black and white conversion? The blacks seem a bit "blocked up" or too black in this, but I think it works here, given its the Wild West.

I look forward to thoughts from our black and white experts!
