My jpg looks too vivid and bright. I've added a more subdued version. I've also created a b/w version in Nik. Thoughts? |

Wow, what an interesting area! The sky in the original pic gave us some perspective to solve what we are actually seeing, as well as a different color from the yellows/oranges. I'd be tempted to just clone out the plane wing. Even if you don't add back the sky, there is a light glare on the top right I'd remove.
I think the f/3.5 hurt you, as it is a bit soft since there isn't much depth of field for a huge landscape. One thing I notice is that when I turn a PSD into a jpg, it gets much more saturated and I need to back down the colors. I think that happened to my Cypress swamp and I've added two different versions to my entry this month.
It seems over-saturated compared to your gorgeous original, but I know Australia can have BIG colors. It seems you've lost your green trees/shrubs, which also makes it more difficult to discern what we are seeing.
Kudos for photographing from a plane! What type of camera and lens did you use? |

Merwyn, I can't wait to see some Roseate Spoonbills when I am in Florida for six months every year! I'd like to see a bit more sharpening on the bird, as it seems just a bit soft. Perhaps lighten the eye just a tiny bit to match the lighting on the body. There are some bits in the water that you might want to clone out to avoid distractions. I'll look forward to what our two bird experts recommend as improvements. |

What a fantastic tree! I see two faces in the trunk! I think its a good subject. I'm thinking I'd darken the sky and the grass a bit to highlight the tree trunk. Or maybe a vignette? |

Ridiculously sharp for 600 mm at ISO 2500! What did you use for your noise reduction? Wonderful composition with the birds as bookends and both eyes lit beautifully. Breathtaking colors. Great lines with the grasses behind the birds.
I'm interested in why you cropped the reflections?

Unbelievable clarity on your heron, Candy! The facial lighting is beautiful and the light is perfectly lit. I just don't have any suggestions. I have got to start using your stroke idea on my photos.
We just bought a place in Sebring, Florida,to stay during the winters and so I hope we can meet some day. |

Sunil, what a great idea to turn this into a monochrome. Alan, your version feels like some of the drawings my dad brought home from WWII. Glad you are enjoying Topaz! |

I've taken down the "glow" behind the dress, I've made the grass more dreamy/misty and I've brightened her face a bit.
Jason, I tried fixing the trees, but I don't think I know enough to get it right.
Thoughts?

I like your work, Abdo! What a great place to have your portrait taken! It would be interesting to open his face just a bit more, not changing the drama, but bringing our eyes to his face.
I would be tempted to use the Liquify filter to gently thin his belly. I think it looks a bit bigger because of the low angle. We probably wouldn't notice it if it wasn't for the dramatic angle, so I think its okay to make him more trim. |

Jason, I find the motorcycle less in focus than the store window. I think its because the motorcycle is dark and my eye in drawn to the lighter areas, such as the white buildings. Perhaps selectively painting with dark and light to add contrast would help?
Definitely like your reflection idea! |

I love how you took an ordinary photo into the extraordinary. The effect choice was exactly perfect. I think Jason's question on the white boats is interesting...perhaps burn them down just a tad? |

Good catch, Alan. The dress is covering it, I'll see what I can do to bring it back. |

Kudos for trying lots of new things, Alan! I love this, and I really like Dave's rendition. Jason's might be a bit tight for me, but the pattern definitely repeats with just the buildings in the pic. This is ideal for Topaz to bring out some interesting textures and details.
Great job on "seeing things" like a photographer! |

Sunil, you've made a beautiful piece of art from a quick snap! And I love her wedding ring (?) right at the tip of her pinky finger.
I'm not sure I would know it was a walking stick from this pic. I wonder if a bit more of her cane showing would help with viewers catching the walking stick along with her powerful hands.
A very powerful piece!
How do you make your b/w conversions? What is Tonality CK?
