I like the changes, Mervyn! I just saw a video by Matt Kloskowski on how to enlarge an item, so I thought I could try to enlarge the boat to make it more prominent. That might work well, especially with your plant on the opposite side. |

Using everyone's suggestions, I removed the bush, since I did not have a shot with more bushes. I also cropped to use the rule of thirds. Below, I'll crop with the land on the middle, since its more of an abstract shot than a landscape shot. Thoughts? |

Geoffrey, thanks for the interesting background on Devil's Marbles! Do you have the original? I'd love to see it. I do love the colors and the lines of the horizon and sunset broken by the rocks.
I do agree it seems over-processed, that's why seeing the original would be awesome. I looked the site up and couldn't determine how large these rocks are. Can you fill me in? |

Donna, Wow, your patience did really pay off! An amazing capture! I note that you have photographed a lot of owls on Facebook. I never see owls...is there a place or any techniques to it?
Can you describe your post processing? Is there a texture? Do you do anything to the eye so its so vivid? I note a bit of a glow by the right side of the owl's body. Natural or added?

Wow, that is one sharp bird face! I don't think I've ever seen a portrait this close and with so much detail. Where were you and do you know what type of hawk it is? |

Pierre, what a lovely crisp capture, and beautiful muted colors. Her claws are amazing. What do you think about a slightly different crop so she isn't quite so centered? |

I think Donna's suggestions are great. I do like how rich your foreground tree blacks are and then how our background fades in the fog. Nicely cropped. |

Mervyn, I love this! I am not a macro photographer, so these are very novice comments. Since the eye and body are so crisp, so the slightly out of focus wings are okay to me. I agree with Donna that there is a lot of noise. There is a new program AI Clear, that is supposed to be the new best noise reduction software.
Donna, I'd love to have you elaborate on a few shots--is your idea that you would randomly get the wings forward and back and combine? I don't really get it. Thanks! |

Jason, Thanks so much for starting this conversation and creating moods and all the different themes we can do with photography. The blog was fabulous. Thanks for bringing us up a level! |

Thanks for the idea, Jason! The staircase was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright--it was his first project. |

I feel like the straightening took away too much from the staircase (the building is actually a cupola and "bent"). But I did lighten the bottom of the stairs to add a stronger "light" and "dark" point. Thoughts? |

Here is the straightened version and lightened some. Dave, I didn't lighten the windows, since the subject is the stairs and don't want the eye going outside. Thoughts? |

Thanks, all! I'm going to look at straightening it and potentially brightening it. Those are two ideas that I didn't consider! Great group! |

Dave, thanks for the explanation on the kayak seats! I like both your revised color and b/w, especially the color! Much easier to translate and enjoy the tranquil scene. |

Hmmmm...in the b/w, I'm not sure what to suggest? The reflection is confusing, even when I've looked at it several times. And I'm a tad confused why the kayak has an odd bow on the right side. The color version is a better read. I'd like to see a different version, as it is a beautiful scene with a strong version. |

Richard, Kudos for getting out in the snow! I'd love some tips to take care of your gear and keep the snow off your lens.
I definitely like the b/w conversion and the crop, it creates a powerful composition. I'm not good at titles, but maybe "Storm"?
Instead of turning her into a silhouette, I'd be tempted to bring her out a bit more, maybe dodge and burn her slightly to get her to be just a tad more defined. However, with her out of focus, it adds to the storm. |

Sunil,
Another beautiful photograph! I like your changes. It's really lovely. If I was to make any suggestions, I might tone down the shiny skull, its a bit distracting from the rest of the serenity you've framed.

You continue to impress me with how you keep trying new things. Wow, the AI Clear worked well with your high ISO. Another new thing for you to add to your "knowledge" list!
I think Sunil's crop and removal made a huge improvement. Nice light on her, and obviously very happy. Ideally, her eyes open would have been a better capture. I'd be tempted to darken her hair bow a bit to not pull our attention from her face. I'd also darken the LED light behind her to not pull our eyes from her face. Perhaps you might slightly burn down the white beads on her neck leading us off the page, very subtle but just keep us highlighted on her face. |

Abdo, What an amazing capture! Such beautiful light! A couple of thoughts--
1) What do you think about cropping the pole on the far right so it doesn't "stop" the horses running.
2) The lead horse has kind of wrinkled skin on his side. I'm not sure if it happened in post processing or is part of the horse's movement. I might smooth it out, perhaps liquify or the smudge tool, or even cloning. |

Jason, I like the in-focus horse, but I can see the beauty of the out-of-focus that Sunil mentions. Yay for you to be out photographing in the snow! Do you have any suggestions for taking care of your gear in the cold? How did you protect your lens? |
