Many thanks Ally. I love your vision of a looking glass - perhaps the Lilly is peering into the dark dimension. |

Thanks Pamela. I do love Lilly of the Valley, and I am encouraging them to thrive and
crowd out the thistle that is mounting a frontal attack on my gardens. |

Splendid action shot and composition! The detail in the Topi and the catchlight in his eye bring the subject to life. The faintly blurred animals in the background provide marvelous context. The pale blue sky is pleasing against the tan grasses. The image conveys a sense of the vastness of the land and the life upon it. |

He is winking at you! Great job stopping those wings. There is great detail in the feathers. I would try opening the crop; it feels tight. I would also reduce the highlights on the left of his neck. I like the detail in the foreground leaves, but the bright highlights on the background leaves are distracting. I would selectively mask them and reduce the glare. |

I like the contrast between the intense motion of the wings and the focused stability of the "straw", head and upper thorax. The eye with its catchlight is a huge bonus. The background, especially the bright pink and creamy blurs, detract from the subject's impact. I would use the mask function of LR to select the moth and the frosted cup from which it is drinking, invert the mask, and reduce the background to a dark green with minimum texture from which the action will then pop. |

Lovely bird. His eye immediately attracts my attention. I like the ground level angle of the shot that allows the viewer to look in his eye. Your shutter speed was very fast, yet while the bird is very sharp, the background almost looks like branches or grass were waving in wind. The bird looks slightly cramped. I would loosen the crop to give him more room, and to show more of the environment around him. I agree with Mike that the background could be blurred. I would try darkening the vignette a bit. |

Sharon, this is a remarkable image. It was the story, those touching beaks, that first attracted my attention. The detail, eyes and feathers, together with the composition, the graceful curves of their necks, the unfurled wings held my attention and guided my eyes throughout. The dense vegetation adds context and strengthens the story. I like the processing, especially the vignette in your revised version. Bravo for capturing this image under the conditions you described. |

Karl, you have two wonderful images here: an impressive capture of solar flares, and an eye-catching abstract. I love the mix of circle symmetry with the asymmetry of the corona elements in the abstract, and the touch of pink flares. I would love to see how you would print this. |

Interesting abstract in which can be seen many things, including a pair of Spanish dancers. I would try a slight dehaze. Can you show us the original? |

I love what you did in "original 2"!! The fog is apparent, but details have emerged. The streak of light above the rise on the right conveys excitement as though dawn were about to break. The foreground vegetation provides depth. The upper right of the image shows a lot of processing noise. I also like "original 1". Its affect is different, more dreamy and isolated. |

I like the softness, white, and backlighting of the gracefully curving petals in the original. The processed version is a bit harsh, and the dark lines on the petals give the illusion of "busy". I would mask the background and darken all those bright petal bits. Then I would mask the center of the flower and bring out the yellow and luminosity. Isolated from the background the organic motion of the flower petals will dominate. |

Wonderful abstract! The colors and luminosity grabbed my attention. The details are both clear and distorted into abstract by the reflection. Your processing brought out the gold color that pops against the blue. You were right, this image sure did have potential. |

Many thanks Karl. I did prefer the no border look, but sometimes judges insisted on a border with a black background. The consensus is in: I shall make that border
go away. |

Thanks Gerard. I had not thought about that border matching the overall image. I agree with you. Do you think a border is necessary, or shall I use a solid thin border? |
