Absolutely amazing action shot! The graceful tilt of the birds head and the arc of water droplets suggest that he is dancing a ballet. The negative space, background bokeh, the grey on grey tones combine to produce a beautiful composition. This minimalistic image of a Least Tern is the MOSTEST!! |

Great illustration of Osprey behavior. The intense look in that eye adds much to this story. I agree with desaturating the blue a bit. If the image will be shown in Nature competition, no branches should be removed.. |

WOW! The dramatic sky top/bottom left/right symmetry are striking. The dark diagonal hills lead to the distant lighter mountains that direct my eyes into that sky. The mountains seem a bit soft, and there is a faint halo on the tops of the hills and mountains. Mike and Sharon's versions are also lovely. The decision to go with a realistic presentation of a scene, or with an artistic rendering is always tough, and depends in part on the purpose of the image. I like the dramatic sky in your version. Can you post the original image? |

Very impressive image. I agree with others that the crop is too tight all around. The background bokeh and tack sharp piercing eye are wonderful. Diagonal lines, triangular shapes and negative space combine for a great composition. |

Exciting image. I also have never seen a hummingbird nest, or babies. The detail in the nest and dangling moss is very pleasing. I rather like the green. The two splashes of green lower L&R together with the upper center green form the apexes of a triangle that nicely frame the action. |

Amazing shot! I love this image -- and I also love the original image. The bird on the wooden platform (what is that) is looking askance at the bird in flight. There are thus two stories here. The bird in flight image is particularly impressive given that you hand held that 100-500mm lens. How do you manage that? I bought that lens but just havent got the hang of it yet. Also, how do you set your R5 for Al Servo? I thought I had mine set, but it doesnt take more than a single image. So much to learn. |

Many thanks Karl. Actually I turned the iPhone flash off. The light was natural. The "Stage Light" setting in "Portrait" mode produced that black background. It works every time. I dont know how it does it - but I will try to find out as it intrigues me. |

Wonderful contrast. It works well in B&W, and also would be great with the green background. |

Lauren, what an amazing transformation! Your processing was remarkable. The final image is lovely. Why did you have to replace the petal edges, and how did you do that? I bet the print on textured paper is terrific. |

Karl, this is indeed a powerful image that could prompt many a story. Those eyes look alive. The vignette works very well. Can you post the original? How was the image processed? Please tell us about that Leica monochrome camera and why you used it. |

Liz, the plant is indeed Queen Ann's Lace, and one of my favorites. I like both the original color and creamy black and white renderings of the background. I might try increasing the contrast between the flower and background by darkening the background a bit. The story is charming. |

Gerard, the wooden chair and wool skeins are wonderful. Please post the original. If possible, I would try a looser crop on the chair. I like your removal of the distracting background legs. The bright white area on top is very distracting and traps my eyes. I would selectively darken it. The grain in both the chair and floor boards is very interesting. However, because they are of the same intensity they compete with each other. I would try masking the chair and darkening the background floor a bit to increase the contrast and thereby bring more attention to the chair. This subject was a great find. |

Peter, very striking flower. I like the impression of motion. The background color and bokeh are perfect against the bright yellow and purple of the flower. The composition could be stronger. I would try to alter the large negative space on the right and the close crop around the subject. You said competition was not your purpose. What was your purpose? Also please post the original. |

Thanks Liz. I love your interpretation. I am always amazed by the iPhone. In addition to taking some great pics, it can identify the plants! |
