52 Feb 23 Comment Beautiful image. The background is spectacular. I see this image as a lovely abstract of dancing birds. The bird on the right appears to be wearing a long formal gown with a grand ruffle on the bottom. I would crop off the bottom up to the ruffle. Your stopping those wings' motion in flight together with the catch lights in the eyes is always impressive. I am so glad that we are Nature + as we have the best of both worlds.

52 Feb 23 Comment Wonderful find. This is why we should never delete images. The wave and the golden streaks of light on the bird and wave are special elements. I feel that the crop on the right is a bit tight. I would crpo more from the top as that white blob detracts from the wave. Feb 22nd
52 Feb 23 Comment Great light and sky. I would crop some from the right up to the dip in the range. The image looks very soft. I would try Topaz sharpen in addition to or instead of the sharpening you did is denoise. The mountains have halos that might reflect postprocessing. I would back off of some of it. Did the day look hazy? If so I might leave the haze for a natural look. Feb 22nd
52 Feb 23 Comment Not only do I feel the power of the raging water -but - I see Neptune just to the right of center. Hin head is turned slightly to the left, his mouth is open as if calling to someone, his eyes are looking at the rocky fall ahead, and his white hair is gloriously standing straight up. See my tight crop below to find him. I prefer your original to your tighter crop as the tree line and slice of sky provide context. Feb 22nd
52 Feb 23 Comment This ghost is showing off for you. The sharp detail, that staring eye, that twist of the head together with the body/feather/wing positions make this image special. I like the crop as is. The hazy clumps of foliage in the background add mystery that goes well with the birds nickname "Ghost". I would try to selectively darken the background a bit. Feb 22nd
52 Feb 23 Comment STUNNING. The detail and action are wonderful - even the water droplets are seen. The reflections provide a lovely background. Your processing worked extremely well. A sure keeper! Feb 22nd
52 Feb 23 Reply Thanks Ally. As I commented above, this image was intended to be a high key, but I will try your suggestion. Feb 21st
52 Feb 23 Reply Thanks Mike. I will try the dark background, and I will add the twig and partial blossom to the cloning list. Feb 21st
52 Feb 23 Reply Changing the background to black is a GREAT suggestion. I will try this once I figure out how to do it. I will keep the high key version too. The two versions will have quite different affects both of which will be I think pleasing. Feb 21st
52 Feb 23 Reply Thanks Pamela. I left those OOF blossoms in the image because they added depth. Looking at it again I see that they can indeed be a distraction. Ill try cloning them out. Feb 21st
52 Feb 23 Reply Thanks Lisa. Ill try dimming things. I was going for a high key here, but dimming could be more restful. Feb 21st
52 Feb 23 Reply Oh good grief! You are right. The weeping cherry tree I shot for this image is in my next door neighbor's front yard. I usually photograph dogwood and my brain went into auto mode. Ill try the cloning you suggest.

52 Feb 23 Reply I would LOVE to know how to create a black background. Many thanks.

79 Feb 23 Reply Freddie, excellent point! Feb 20th
79 Feb 23 Comment What a wonderful antique. The gold color in the original is striking and beautiful. Your monochrome version highlights the wonderful texture and detail, and I prefer it. I like Karl's blurred background, but your B&W has more punch than the antique color. I might try leaving the ideabook in the image as it fits right in with the period. Feb 19th
79 Feb 23 Comment Dear Karl, I was not familiar with the pixel stick tool, and I looked up some other images made with it. Your image is quite different in that it resembles a collage - a picture cut out of a magazine and simply taped onto an image of a woods (with one exception discussed below). Was that your intent? I might have blended the edges of the pasted image for a more realistic effect. The cut out does not extend to the right of the image. I might have cropped it on the right, although that would lessen the feeling that it was a cut out pasted on. Also, why? WHY did you load THAT subject onto the stick? I thought a lot about this. In the end I must admit that I find it offensive. BUT--I am curious about one technical aspect: was the tree to the left of center in front of the other trees, and did you walk behind it? Feb 19th
79 Feb 23 Comment Freddie, I have viewed this image from two aspects. First, it has good compositional elements. Three figures and five black keys echo the rule of odds. The diagonal position of the music box adds interest. The repetition of the keys adds rhythm (pun intended). The repetition of the ochre color leads the eye throughout the image. Second, the image suggested a rather dark story. The music book is on top of the tiny piano lid rather than positioned for reading and playing, and there is no piano bench. The keys on the real piano have yellowed. The black hoods on the three figures are reminiscent of the hoods worn during the black plague. Thus, for me the image reflects the toll that the current pandemic has taken on live music concerts and the musicians that present them. Feb 19th
79 Feb 23 Comment Gerard, this abstract is rich in interpretations. I prefer your vertical orientation and crop. I like the symmetry in the reversed L-shaped streaks of rust at the bottom, and the pod stems at the top. After reading Karl's comments I immediately saw the fellow staring left. Then, when I studied Peter's horizontal orientation I saw a fellow peering from a mask that covers his prominent nose. I did not see the cobra head, even after looking up images of them. Feb 19th
79 Feb 23 Comment Peter, this is a wonderful image. I like the original as well, but I do prefer your near monochrome version. The buildings look crisp against the motion of the sky and water. The bridge serves as a leading line that takes the eye to the buildings. The silvery blue cast is very pleasing. I am not familiar with the glowing edge filter. Upon enlargement the buildings have bright halos. I also see them in the original. Are the halos in the original artifacts? How do the glowing edges in the edited version manifest? Feb 19th
