Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
52 Jun 21 Comment I photograph lots of these tweety birds because I installed feeders right outside a window. So shooting through a window (that is not always sparkling clean) no doubt contributed to the final image quality. I am making a photographic record of the visitors to that branch which I attached to the feeder for them to pose. Many of them do indeed dash off before I get the shot.
Thanks for the ID. I have trouble distinguishing the chickadee from the black capped sparrow.

52 Jun 21 Reply It is stunning, and I see that the color of the rocks matches your processed image. The detail you focused on created a great abstract. I have not seen this area. Perhaps someday I will. You have given me an idea. I did not think about the effect of radiating heat on images. I have seen heat swirls from hot pavement, but never thought to photograph them. It could be interesting. Jun 12th
52 Jun 21 Comment Wonderful action shot. The jay is tack sharp and you caught him frolicking. There are even water droplets in the air. The bokeh is great, but I would tone down the white streak under his beak as it competes with his white breast. The reflections and swirls in the water add interest. I prefer the rectangular crop you show here as it gives just the right amount of negative space in front of the jay. I think removing the valve is good, AND I would also remove its reflection in the bath. Jun 11th
52 Jun 21 Comment Amazing location. So wonderful to see elephants in the wild. Their numbers are diminishing. Did you hear interesting night sounds? What camera/lens/settings did you use, and how did you process the image? Do you have the original? The highlights in the sky are rather harsh. The golden reflection of the sunset in the water is lovely. Jun 11th
52 Jun 21 Comment WOW! That red eye grabs my attention. This is a great insect shot. You captured him at just the right moment. What camera, lens, and settings did you use? Every year the Entomology Society of America has a photo contest. I think you should consider entering this one. The detail and story are wonderful. I have not seen any cicadas yet. Jun 11th
52 Jun 21 Reply You are right; the right wing tips are in focus. It was the long neck and right leg that looked a bit soft. Perhaps it is the nature of the neck and leg feathers. About half way down the neck is what looks like a water drop that is out of focus. What do you think? None of this detracts from the composition and the moment you captured. Jun 11th
52 Jun 21 Comment Interesting abstract. The diagonal ridges form strong compositional elements. What is the black object on the right? It looks like a piece of very black cloth or charred wood. Fascinating. The hues in the original are quite different from the processed version. In the original the rock looks more as though it were painted. The image appears to be soft, especially the flowers. Was there a wind blowing? The yellow color of those flowers is beautiful against the reddish rock. What a fantastic area. Jun 11th
52 Jun 21 Comment Great story here. Was he just showing off for you or a mate, or stretching, or indeed marking his territory? Together with your crop, removing the Coot and turtle gave proper attention to the bird. Toning down the highlights in the water worked well. I especially like the subtle pink on the feathers, and the reflections of the shore flora. What were your camera settings? The left wing looks more in focus than the rest of the bird. It may have been a small aperture or the bird's motion motion. Jun 11th

79 Jun 21 Reply Thanks for hunting the images down. The face in the ice image is incredible. The eyes have one long icy lash each. I love the way the flames dwarf the people in the fire image. Looking at the original fire image enlarged I see at least six additional faces. Dante's inferno. I have never attended this festival, and dont really know what it all about. It looks dangerous.
These two images belong together, and together they tell a new story.

79 Jun 21 Comment Wonderful image! The facial features really do stand out here. The rust-colored trees look beautiful against the blue grey stone, and that powder blue sky is great. The image is very pleasing to view. Jun 14th
79 Jun 21 Comment Karl, this image is the food of imagination (I too see an open-faced grilled cheese sandwich). BUT I also see--- The silhouettes of humans in the fiery layer prompt thoughts of creation and evolution of sentient forms of life. The "eyes" in the pale overlay originate in the fire, as though the nascent humans are peering into the universe for knowledge. The smirk on the universe says much. When I look closely that mouth suggests a snake. Can you post the two originals?
What cameras/lenses/settings were used?

79 Jun 21 Comment I too love the abstract nature of reflections in water. You have a wealth of patterns in this image. The very bright pinkish area on top just right of center has but little detail and pulls my eyes away from the rest of the image. I would either selectively tone it down or crop it. What camera and lens did you use, and what were your aperture and shutter speed settings? What processing software and tools did you use? The green swirls led my eyes across the image and presented potential unifying elements. I tried the crop below and flipped the image horizontally to create an arc of intermittent green from a darker section bottom left over to the lighter green on the upper right. Jun 14th
79 Jun 21 Comment Nice composition. I agree with Karl that the right and left stems could be muted. Please elaborate on how setting your camera to manual lit only the subject. Did you use a flash?
What were those settings? The flowers look quite soft. Was that an artistic intention, or a function of the settings? Can you post the original. What did you use for processing to clean up the background? What camera and lens did you use?
