This image tells a great story full of mystery. The dark background and faded streaks of color give the illusion of flying over water. The highlights on the straw, beak, wing and feather tips reflect a setting sun. Will she make it home before dark? The image is tac sharp. The intersecting diagonals formed by the bird's body and the wings produce a pleasing composition. I love this image! |

MAGNIFICENT! Their position generates a heart--and on Valentine's day!. The symmetry just pops. I like the eyes, and the crisscrossed spiky feathers. This is a rare moment well captured. |

Wonderful colors and background bokeh. Upon enlargement I noticed
halos surrounding the butterfly, especially the antennae and head area. I believe it is the result of over processing. I see that you have addressed this, but the halo still appears along the underside of the insect's body.
I like the composition, but agree with others that the two branches on the bottom could be removed. |

Beautiful orchids! Your crop is perfect. The diagonal generated by the orchids contributes to a strong composition. What camera, lens and settings did you use here? The flower is in sharp focus, and the colors are lovely. The background is distracting. I would tone it down further to almost black. |

For me this image is all about the beak and eye. The lower portion of the image pulls my eyes away from the subject and over to the lower right where I saw what looked like a face with a large eye, topped by an eyebrow, staring at me. I would try a crop that would highlight the beak and bird's eye. |

Sharon, I think this is a wonderful nature art image. I was immediately drawn in by the minimalist presentation and the touches of color on the head and wing. The playful flip of his foot made me smile, and the reflection added a sense of mystery--what is under that water? I like the canvas addition. |

Tom, I do not have Topaz, however I do believe it is time to invest time in learning it. Although I dont see a huge difference in sharpness in your version, it does look better. Many thanks for mentioning this post-processing enhancement. |

Many thanks John. I will try out all of your suggestions. Which means I must get that Topaz software--AND--learn how to use it. So much to learn!

Thanks Mike. I prefer your crop as it makes a better composition. The weird outstretched wing is what prompted me to use this image. The wind was causing the birds to act a bit weird, and that wing seemed to capture the moment.

Sandra, I like the feeling of emptiness that you have created. While all the suggestions that have been made would be interesting, I rather like your interpretation. The narrow crop gives depth and together with the dark foreground and sides they give a feeling of peeking into the past/future. This fine art image has inspired many thoughts! |

I love the way you treated this image. You have captured the etherial essence of the butterfly, and created a dreamy fairy land. It would be interesting to see how other borders (or none at all) would effect the image's affect as others have suggested. However, the lines on the image as presented suggest that the viewer is looking out through an old window into a magical place. |

That is one of the most dramatic skies I have seen. The lights and reflections carry the colors throughout the scene. The drama is enhanced by your facing the oncoming traffic. This is a great road shot, and the mystery and story of the road taken makes it a fine art image as well. |

Mary, your B&W version of this image carries a mysterious and powerful story. The lighting is is wonderful. I think the high contrast is important to the affect, and I would not change it. The detail on the face adds realism. I find the tattoo distracting, yet on the other hand it adds a lot to the mystery. I would see how it looks with the tattooed arm darkened. Either way this is a strong fine art image. |

I too love these sprite-rich images, and have been a card-carrying member of the man-in-the-moon club for decades. In your image I see three birds, one of which is facing away from the writing. I also see a frog with eyes bulging reading the message. Often water reflections of tree twigs also resemble ancient runes. |

Thanks! This is essentially the original. I only cropped a bit to set the composition. |
