ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Minimalist fine art. Reminiscent of a Japanese ink drawing. The flowing shape of the bird's wings is beautiful, and my eye flows along with the wings. The wing on the left forms a diagonal line that intersects the lines formed by the right wing as it swoops upwards. This line is paralleled by the tall grasses in the background. The amber color in the bird's eye appears at the base of the grasses. This image is PERFECT. |

Wonderful bird, plant, background, colors, and composition. My eye dances around the triangle formed by the green leaf on the right, the green bud, and green in the bird's feathers. The red in the beak and bud draw my attention to a diagonal line is formed by the bird's head, beak, and bud. The left edge of the leaf on the right forms a line parallel to this diagonal. The line of the bird's body intersects these two parallel lines. The water falling droplets, and water drop under the green leaf on the right are a great bonus. The texture in the background water is found in the bird's feathers. The shape of the bird's eye is repeated in the water droplets. I do not think I would change a thing. |

Great composition. I love the monolith in the foreground. The colors are somewhat too harsh for my eyes. The trees on the horizon have halos; perhaps they result from over saturation or sharpening. If it were my landscape, I would cut back the post processing and go for a warmer version. |

Wonderful expression! The textures do indeed work very well in B&W. The image looks a bit soft when enlarged. I would try to sharpen it. In the original the eye is dramatic. However in the B&W version the eye does not pop. Would darkening the purple and lightening the iris be allowed? It may add the contrast that the yellow in the color version generates. |

Beautiful birds! The composition is very good. I like the way the beaks of the parent and chicks point in opposite directions, and form the three vertices of a triangle. The twigs of the nest in the foreground provide good context and contrast. However, the foliage in the background is too bright, and distracts the eye from the birds. Selective lowering of the highlights in the background might help. |

I love this image! After gazing on the yellow flower, my eye is drawn along the diagonal line that begins at the lowest right corner, and travels to the leaf up and to the left of the flower. An intersecting diagonal that proceeds from this leaf up and to the right through the burgundy-colored leaf, leads my eye up to the right and out of the image. The yellow of the leaf is repeated in the central spot of the burgundy leaf, and to a lesser extent in the center of the green leaf below and left of it. The reddish tones in the flower appear at the tip of the bud at the left of the flower, and in the leaves.
The flower, bud, and burgundy leaf form a scalene triangle. The yellow of the flower shines out against the warm brown and burgundy tones of the water and green leaves. The overall image is reminiscent of the Renaissance technique of Chiaroscuro. The shadows, and the water drops on the flower petals are a bonus.
Regarding this image's competition history, although you sharpened the flower, it does have a soft look to it. Perhaps increasing the contrast between the whorls of petals would add definition. |
