John, so sorry!! I myself have been falsely accused of over saturating a beautiful deep blue sky, and now I have fallen into the pit of the accuser. Sometimes things look just too good to be real. Re the crop--I have detected an inconsistency in my critiquing. I loudly proclaim the virtues of the natural image, then suggest that you crop. BUT--I do think a walk on the water would yield a great effect in the case of this image. |

What an interesting shot. You captured a rare moment. The detail is terrific. The angle of the deer's neck is remarkable. I would crop a bit from the left side of the image to reduce those dark areas that pull my eyes from the deer. I like the way that the deer blends with the environment. Those I have seen always do. So again the conundrum: to tinker with sliders and pop the subject, or preserve the natural image. I always seem to prefer the latter. |

Wonderful sky! I love the depth in the forest trees, and the hop scotch placement in the lakes. The distant lake looks as though it leads into another. I like what Mike did with the crop and colors. |

I like the autumnal colors in the trees. The sky is over saturated and draws my eyes away from the trees. I also agree that cropping the water to leave just a little of the rippled motion would give more emphasis to the colorful tree line. |

Magnifient raptor. And what a steely eye. I too love the almost sepia colors. I share your hesitation to remove elements like those branches from a nature shot. I like Mike's version a lot, but I prefer the original. The branches do frame the bird, and they depict the natural setting. |

I love this image. It is most certainly competition worthy. My eyes were immediately drawn to the wonderful foreground. For me the most striking aspect of the image is the pleasing bitone quality of the colors.
I like John would not have removed the branches. They add reality and produce interesting opposing leading lines. |
