John and members of Group 52, thank you so very much for your detailed critiques of this image. I submitted the cropped version to the monthly competition of the Delaware Photographic Society, and it took first place!! |

Amazing avian convention ! The pink and grey seem to be eyeing each other cautiously. The wing spread on the pink is particularly impressive. I would have been great to capture the full reflection of the pink. Amazing shot of an amazing moment in nature.

The light play on the snow beneath the clump of trees in the center, and on the trees to the right of it is lovely. The snow/water circling to the left of that central clump forms a nice leading line. The tree of barren branches to the left seems to dwarfs the golden-lit trees of interest. Is the blue on the snow/water a reflection of that blue blue sky? I think it would be interesting to walk out on the water a little and zoom in on the area to the right that is so beautifully lit. What a magical place! |

Oh to behold the dandelions once more! Spring is much delayed on the East coast. I love extension tubes for flowers. I use them with a 100mm macro lens. I have not tried them with the 16-300 Tamron lens, but you have inspired me to try it. I would use a much smaller aperture to increase depth of field. I find imperfections in flowers interesting, and I incorporate them routinely. However, when doing so I focus on an interesting impurity, and use the "perfect" petals as background. I would try composing this shot from different angles and fields and with backlighting as suggested. Your image is filled with joy. Thank you for this taste of Spring. |

WOW! Great shot. The King clearly posed for you. The eye is so sharp I can see the veins, and he seems to be looking right at me. This is a wonderful royal portrait. |

Many thanks for suggesting the crop. I tried it and love the result. Please see the new version in my reply to John. I wish Spring would arrive for the Purple's salute! We are getting ready for a foot of snow and a week of cold here in DE. Cheers, Judith |

John, thank you so much for your encouragement and information. I was not aware of either Tony Sweet or Kathleen Clemons. Studying their work will provide great inspiration. I tried cropping as you suggested, and I love the result (shown below). Thanks, Judith |

I love the high key effect of the white background. The bird's eye and yellow beak pop. The neck seems soft. Could it be sharpened? The water ripples and reflection of the neck in the water add to the artistic quality of this minimalist image, however, it would be nice to see the reflection of the head. The lovely patterns in the wings compliment the swirls in the water. Great image reminiscent of Andrew Wyeth. |
