I feel this image can tell two different stories. One the way you have it and one without. My choice is the one without the Do Not Enter sign. I like the cropped version Marti added, but I would saturate the colors a bit more as Beverly did in her image.
How ironic two images submitted this month were graffiti. I think we should have an assigned month of Graffiti!! |

This trip is on my bucket list. You captured the action beautifully. I like the original photo best as it is focused on the action of the train. I suggest straightening it, then dodge and burn around the steam and train, so it is is the focal point. |

I like the 3 colors and would crop this as a pano to capture all three to create an abstract look.
I attended the Photography as Art presentation by Art Wolfe that Mike mentions. Has it ever changed the way I look at patterns in life.

I love the lines in this image. First the horizon line of the sidewalk, which leads my eye to the stairs and then up to the tree which has round, curve and vertical lines that lead back to the sidewalk. Nice triangle created by the stairs, tree and sidewalk. I feel the focal point of this image is the stair leading into the tree, so I would clone all the windows out. I like the lightened version of the wall, which causes the stairs and tree to contrast and remain the focal point. Fun capture!!! |

I just finished watching No More Rules!? Human Perceptions and Compositions by Colleen Minuik https://youtu.be/3mDYFq2J5EM
She talks about the use of shapes, lines, position and color to tell our story. I feel this image falls right in line with the ideas she shared. First, you have the squirrel in the lower left which is round and then the fence which has varied angles leading the eye to the base of the tree trunks, then to the walk path and then out of the frame. The tree trunks have strong vertical lines in comparison to the angles of the fence. Then the walk path has a different angle leaving you wondering where it goes. The foliage has warm colors contrasting with the green, which provides peace. I really like the composition and processing. The only suggestion I have is to clone out the dark branches at the top and replace with foliage from the tree. |

I chose a general reply since most comments are similar. Thanks so much for the feedback. I do not know what the foliage around the lake is, but it was fascinating how it lined the entire lake. I tried to access the lake from the campground below the lookout, but it required bushwhacking and my new knee wasn't up for the challenge!!!
The processing of this image was most interesting. I had a heck of a time brightening the image without losing the contrast. When I exported it to Marti, I thought I had achieved the look I wanted, but the image is considerably darker than it was on my monitor....perhaps it's time for color calibration. I really like Marti's exposure! Back to work, before I submit this one for competition. |
