The subject is sharp and I like the cropping and composition. I am not sure which background I would ultimately choose. I think I would focus on making the separation look as close to original looking as possible (owl to background separation lines). Great capture of a strong subject.

I concur on all the comments. Great subject and great choice to make this a monochrome (it probably didn't have much color anyway). Good eye to spot this.

Hi Vince, welcome to the group. Wonderful image. I can tell that you have that photographers eye. To me the composition is very strong. The fence on the left leads my eye to that great red tree (the star of the show). I like that you have an anchor tree on the right and left a little breathing room for the tree on the outer edge. The branches in the upper part of the image don't bother me, they seem to help lead my eyes downward toward the main subject area (the red tree). I could tell that HDR was used but it doesn't seem to be too strong to me. Overall, a very nice image, well done. |

It amazes me how cellphones can capture what they can with the small sensors in which they possess. I agree about straightening the horizon. I think most non-photographers wouldn't really notice that but more serious photographers probably would. I like the composition and the clouds are very pleasing to my eye. The clouds have some overexposed areas but probably not recoverable from an iPhone capture. |

Thanks for the comments (and welcome to the Group Vincent). Different is what I also try to strive for. Since Bryce has literally been photographed Millions (maybe even billions of times) I am hoping not to go there and copy what others have already done. I think I agree with the comments about wanting more on the right. I looked to see if I had another perspective but I don't. I was looking to include a strong foreground element and saw the leading lines of the tree roots. I have included the original Raw image capture. |
