Generally speaking, aren't poinsettias a deeper red, more saturated? |

To tell the truth, there's some good qualities in the phone pic. For instance, the diagonal left line of buildings seems to be better lit. The saturation in both pics are comparable. In any case, your hard work in building the final image has paid off. Interesting line from the fountain back toward the white church in the back. The structures on the right and left act as a framing device for that line. Cutting off the fountain at the bottom probably is not that much of a negative. Nice job. |

This turned out really well! Very sharp and at the same time maintaining bokeh and depth of field. This is so well captured that you could afford to crop in from the top and bottom, more like a macro shot. In any case this should be printed for your wall and entered in a competition. Another adjective: striking! |

I like the pose and the story that is being told. Since the 'hot lips' are relatively small, maybe bringing in the composition a bit would make them more visible. If you don't mind I played around with the image a little; I zoomed in, added some contrast and brightening and removed some of the clutter on the right of the goat to illustrate what I mean. |

Yes, the colors really popped! I do like the diagonals caused by the balloons leaning, and as a bonus they are tilted at slightly different angles. You could say the glowing in the balloons was reflected in the sky glow. As Mike says, this is a creative capture. I do wonder if you could have zoomed in closer to further accentuate the balloons and leaving just a hint of the sky. Well done! |

Nice detail in the bodies of both birds, and especially in the eyes. Nothing appears to be over exposed, and it's nice to see detail even in the dark feathers. The legs form and interesting pattern. The birds stand out from the background quite well. Good job! |

You captured this at precisely the right moment! The egret seems almost to be doing an elegant dance on the water. The sun angle, combined with the dark background, shows off this bird perfectly. I've talked with photographers over the years and it's interesting that some prefer using the histogram and others the highlight warning. The flashing blown out warning has always worked for me. Another competition worthy image, |

The bird is nice and sharp, and the ambient light gives off a soft box feel. The hard edged thorns offer a nice contrast to the comparably soft body. The placement of the bird and branches seems to divide the composition in half; there is very little in the right half that adds to the overall look. Also, inasmuch as the bird is the subject I feel you should zoom way in in order to bring out more detail, while still including some of the thorns, which add to the picture. Bokeh is perfect, except for the brown object on the right. |

Like Bruce's image, you have a minimal amount of color ('less is more'), and the whitish background suggests winter conditions. The tree trunk gives a nice anchor for the bird, and allows for it to be off-centered. The red on the crest adds a contrasting bit of color. I agree with the vertical orientation.

Well exposed, and there's an interesting combination of shapes with the grapes and the edgy leaves. Good detail in the eye and rest of the body. The grape in the mouth adds to the overall story telling. I like how the weight of the clinging bird pushes the bunch of grapes slightly off vertical. The leaves reinforce all of the diagonal lines. |

Beautifully done! Nice angle of attack, and the detail is well captured. Minimal color palate -- just white, black, pale blue and pale brown. Excellent bokeh. Perhaps you could boost the brightness and saturation in the bill and the feet, which look just a little muddy. Great competition entry. |
