Very interesting contribution this month, and your point is well worth considering!! I would like to see your final image; maybe you could have presented this as your original so that there could be a comparison between the two pics. Did AI give you a completely different picture, or did it just re-arrange the elements? For myself, I have resisted doing anything with the programs for the reasons you have alluded to. But to be honest in the early years of my camera club there was an ongoing debate between film adherents and those that thought digital was the new wave of the future. I'm glad you brought this up and I'm looking forward to the comments. |

Certainly is an unusual image! Does it qualify as a still life? It is still and it is life -- so, why not? The leather knot contrasts with the furry legs and both have well done textures. The portrayal of tight constraint gives off a feeling of ... of tight constraint! I don't mean this in any way to be a negative observation. Your picture is quite original (once you figure out what it is), so well done! I'll think of this the next time I put on a sweater... |

Nice capture of texture, especially in the light house. The background continues into the front as a sandy beach. If both left and right sides were brought in so as to slightly cut off the rocks, it might give the illusion of there being a larger front area, as well as having a less isolated -- and less static -- overall image. That humongous claw has a sci-fi feel -- as in "The Claw That Devoured Cape Hatteras .." |

Repeated concentric circles from the matte and the dishes lead the eye into the soup, which has a nice texture. In fact, you have alternating rings of textures from the outside in with the rough, smooth and then, what, chunky? Pleasing colors as well. I hope you were able to enjoy your subject for lunch, which is something you don't get to say very often.... |

There is a lot to like about this. The earth tone colors, especially the green and yellow with the earthy tan and brown background. All of this combined with the hard edges of the holder and the nicely done glass vases with the water and reflections. As well, you have presented contrasting straight lines with the natural flowing lines of the flowers. Only one very minor item: the whitish 'streak' in the upper right corner might be eliminated. Overall, a great image to look at. |

It always makes for a good image when a bird is heading into the wind and the feathers get really ruffled. The bokeh in this particular image leaves you with a minimum number of colors, which is a bit unusual with nature pictures. The gray and burnt orange sets the mostly white and black of the goose off really well. |

If I read this correctly your shutter speed was only 1/500 of a sec, which means you froze the action of the body very well. The tips of the wings are slightly blurred which gives a sense of motion. Sharp detail in the body and the water acts as a framing device to show off the ducks. Possibly a little more contrast? |

After looking at this for awhile, I was trying to conclude whether or not the two trees flanking the owl were a little too distracting in terms of composition (the bright tree trunk on the left in particular). I then thought that the trees could serve as a kind of gateway for the bird to fly through. Probably six of one half a dozen of the other. The owl itself is sharp and well exposed, with a dynamic tilt angle. The face is well captured. |

Nice sharp capture with good detail in the wings and good exposure. The body of the bird has some blown out parts. The overall image in the final is probably too dark and too blue. You could select out the bird and brighten up the background somewhat and take some of the blue out with the saturation slider in Photoshop. Also crop in from the left. Well done flight shot. |

Nice, sharp action capture. The dynamic position of the wings allow for very good exposure without blowing out the body of the bird. The positioning of the fish and the eye highlight really adds to the story telling aspects of the image. Perhaps a bit more contrast? And a little more cropping? Good shot! |

Sorry about the typo -- that of course should read "Sunrise Greeting." |

Nice, subtle, earth tones in every area of your image. That deteriorating stump is a strong base for the birds, and everything is sharp - except of course for the background which is blurred well. The eyes are captured well. Not much to criticize in your picture. When you brought up Kruger, it was "heart be still!" My ex is from South Africa and we visited there on several occasions and it was most memorable. I don't know what your situation is but I hope you're able to rent a combi at Skukuza and drive yourself around at leisure, and go anywhere you want as long as you're back to the camp before gate closing, which is around sundown. Best of luck, and keep us, or me, posted! |
