In general I prefer overcast for its soft box effect. Perhaps sunlight might have produced too much contrast, obscuring the undergrowth. |

You did a fine job editing this shot. Good combination of natural blues, greens and golds, with some browns thrown in. The way the hills slant (rather than being level) adds to the composition and the bushes in the middle break up what might be an ordinary set of visual lines. The rolling look of the hills is reflected in the clouds. There's actually a bit of a curve in that the line of hills bends around where it meets the valley on the left. Still not crazy about the name .... |

Nice, vibrant color, and all of the visual lines appear to sweep around eventually to the viewer. Here's my over the top fantasy view for the month: the gray square at top middle is like a mechanical intake/mouth while the middle railings are like giant mandibles looking for a victim, and the rear stair cases are the arms sweeping trapped plants toward the front for consumption. I'm OK, aren't I? |

It's always going to be a daunting prospect shooting a subject that's in shade without using fill flash, especially when the bird is already on the dark side. However, your picture does capture a natural story quite well. Since the bird was sitting still, you could have boosted the ISO quite a bit; that lens and camera combination could have handled an ISO setting of over 1,000. Maybe crop down from the top? A lot of negative space above the bird's head. |

Nice combination of visual rhythms -- the small, repeating birds, the blocks of concrete, and the long thick intertwined poles, topped by the solid look of the sky. I like the blue colors contrasting with the whites of the gulls. I wonder if the area of the composition below the birds can stand some more contrast; it has the appearance somewhat of being shot through a ND filter. A creative image! |

Nice and colorful and I like the way the round, folded (what are they called?) parts lead the eye to the open flowers at the top. In a way, your image demonstrates how a static display can seem energetic at the same time. My eye is drawn to that post in the background and makes it seem that it is plunging right into the flowers -- perhaps clone it out? |

This brings back some memories -- my family is originally from Buffalo, and we crossed over the Rainbow Bridge into Canada many times. Your image has two merging diagonal lines (the river and the falls on the right) framed by the row of bushes at the bottom and the bridge at top. Tough to expose for both a bright sky and darker landscape, but you balanced out both in LR pretty well. Perhaps crop down from the top a little bit? |

Nice detail and story telling. Maybe a little bit over saturated. Also, you might crop in a bit from the right, thus moving the bird away from dead center. Good capture, poor snake! |

Very well done! Perfect background, which presents this bird nicely, and it's very sharp in the details. The open mouth really adds to the overall look. The swoop of the body and tail runs parallel to the branch, which adds two nice visual lines. I might have cropped in a bit from the left, but this is still a pleasure to view. |

Looks great with the wings extended. The bird is sharp with a nice blurred background. Good texture in the fence post. I think there is too much negative space -- you could crop in from both sides and the top. Good effort. |

You did a nice recovery of your original. Beautiful colors, faithfully reproduced, while maintaining a good level of sharpness. Maybe you could experiment with removing the hanging vertical tree limb (or whatever it is) on the left side, enhancing the bokeh in the background. |

Simple, yet compelling image. The eyes shoot straight through the viewer, especially when considering its probable fate. Would it have been possible to place the owl back into its nest? I love that you zeroed right into the eyes, making this an unusual capture and composition. Competition entry? Great job! |
