If the bush wasn't cut off in the vertical orientation, or if it wasn't even there, I would go with that. I may have to flip a coin, but I'd say I was favoring the horizontal, with maybe cropping in somewhat from both sides. Going horizontal would present some additional interesting visual elements. |

Peggy's on to something here: it does have a bonsai feel to it. I like the way the trees in the lower left are illuminated -- lots of three dimensionality vibes. Perhaps a little too much sharpening? Nice composition. As always, a dull day can provide a soft box look, and it does here. Atmospheric image. |

I think Joe is correct in that the image would benefit from leveling off the waves. The juxtaposition of the birds with all of the busy lines of the fallen tree is nice. While the original is too blue, I wonder if the final is a little to yellow. I lean toward the blue, in that there doesn't seem to be all that much sunlight. Overall, well done. |

I like the diagonal lines (rays, almost) given off by the clouds, which give a dynamic feel to what would ordinarily be a static look. I do agree that, although the sunset is not all that prominent, my 'mind's eye' is drawn to that corner and upsets the compositional balance somewhat. Could you have moved the camera to your left so that the sunset would have been moved closer toward the middle? There is a rule of thirds of sort with the green brush in the foreground, the hillside, and then the sky. |

Nice recovery from the original. I think, that as Joe notes, if you crop down from the top and eliminate the bright part at the top, then you could lighten up the rest of the image, in that it seems to me to be a little dark. As well, perhaps a little more saturation is called for. Overall a pleasing composition, with a sense of mystery. |

The craggy and swirling lines of the dead tree provide an excellent visual base, or perch, for the birds. Nice background. I like the way that the entire contents of the picture (birds and tree) are present, so that the negative space provides a frame. Interesting tension between the landing bird and the squawking bird. |

You stopped the action very well here with the wings in a perfect V position. Having prey in its beak always adds to the story and the action of the image. Good color balance, but perhaps the bird is a little dark, at least on my monitor. Adding a vignette might help, but well done. |

Nice and sharp, and exposed well. Well done with the eye. Bokeh in the back frames the bird. The insect adds to the composition and story. Great soft box effect. |

Nice exposure, especially under the wings, which sometimes is too dark to bring out. Color balance is great. Perhaps the bird is being given too much space -- cropping in might be an improvement in that there is too much negative space which is not helping the composition. |
