22 Jan 25 Reply Sorry, but I'm not familiar with his work, but then there are many prominent people in many professions that I've come across only recently. In my camera club I would get into many conversations/verbal altercations with folks who would claim that a particular image 'wasn't real' photography, especially those veterans of the film days before digital came along. I guess the old cliche about it being in the eye of the beholder fits here. There are many portraits taken in the early 1900s where the face was in perfect focus but by the plane of the ear, the back of the head was already blurring. Jan 18th
22 Jan 25 Comment It's probably better that you didn't have a bright sky in that the contrast between light and dark might've been too much. As it is, nature has provided you with a nice soft box effect. Leading lines formed by the river and the river bank following along, and the tree line jutting out from the left, adds to the sense of the water moving around the bend, even though it is actually static. It would've added to the composition if somebody (a kayaker, for example) was up near where the river starts to disappear around the corner. Jan 16th
22 Jan 25 Comment Vivid colors, good exposure. The eye is especially well done. There's a nice arc formed by the way the bird is situated. As Mike alludes to, the picture of the bird seems more like it's taken from outside of a cage, or even a chain link fence. Jan 16th
22 Jan 25 Comment Al, your rework of the original turned out really well. The sepia-like tone is perfect. This could easily be an illustration to background a magazine article or advertisement, or poster for an Old West themed fair. Or of course a stand alone print for your wall. Nice contrast and textures. Well done! Jan 15th
22 Jan 25 Comment Very nice abstract composition with a mix of shapes and textures. Reds can be tricky to work with, but here they turned out well; I think that there is a soft box effect helps a lot. Maybe saturate a bit more while keeping an eye on the reds to prevent bleeding. Print worthy. Jan 15th
22 Jan 25 Comment Unfortunately, I have to agree with Mike about the image being quite a bit out of focus. Also, the top could be cropped down somewhat. Cute pose, though. Jan 15th

91 Jan 25 Reply I like your stepping stones analogy. Jan 21st
91 Jan 25 Comment Great shot of the bird -- color balance, exposure, sharpness -- it's all there. The angle of your capture means that the shadow under the left wing gives the body a real modeled, 3d appearance. I like the look of the tip feathers (in particular the left wing) which lend an elegant look. Maybe you could experiment with a sky replacement to add some more drama. Otherwise, hardly anything to criticize here -- great job! Jan 15th
91 Jan 25 Comment Well captured action shot, and nicely cropped. To me, at least on my monitor, the bird seems to be over exposed, particularly on the top of the head and the shoulders. As well, as Steve points out, the water could be darkened a bit. Jan 14th
91 Jan 25 Comment Nice background treatment, subdued and soft focus allows the bird to be front and center. The fence gives solid support, but perhaps is too prominent. The throat area seems a bit underexposed, but the eyes are well done. The bird being the main subject, I tried cropping in to lessen the impact of the fence rails, if you don't mind. Jan 14th
91 Jan 25 Comment Sanat, I think maybe you could've cropped in even more, perhaps experimented with a slight vertical orientation. You captured the moment very well but the fish is somewhat obscured because the exposure in the area of the mouth is so dark. Do you ever use fill flash? Jan 13th
91 Jan 25 Comment Perhaps cropping off some of the left side and boosting the contrast a little? Otherwise a very good action/environmental image with nice background bokeh. Jan 13th
