I agree with Cindy about the blue cast. This perhaps could be because of some reflection from a blue sky falling on the dark(ish) tree, but at an hour before sunset I don't know how blue the sky would be. You mention sparkling eyes so maybe the eyes in this case could be made to appear more vivid. I keep going back and forth as to whether or not there is too much negative space with that hole in the tree trunk. Good pose, however. |

Many good qualities in this image: subject sharpness and background blurring, spot on with the color balance, and lots of intersecting (or potentially intersecting) diagonal lines. Also, of course, is the choice of a vertical orientation. I like and agree with your approach toward saving the whites. The only thing that would improve this pic would be to catch it with some prey in its mouth. Excellent!

Quite unusual capture on two counts: natural camouflage for the adult and camo for the chick as well, which I didn't immediately catch, it's so well hidden. I wonder if the species has adapted to the point that the chick does not open its eyes when nesting with the parent, which would tend to give away its position to potential hunters. Would you've had time to wait around for the eyes to open, or does it keep them shut pretty much the whole day? Nice shot. |

Sanat, except for maybe bringing in the right edge slightly, there's very little to critique -- beautifully reproduced colors, soft background, perfectly sharpened, and nice catch light in the eye. I think this is your best entry since the group started. |

Very well done action shot with blurred background and soft colors that reveal the bird's natural location. The zig-zag lines of the legs and wings and the way the sandhill is really leaning into getting airborne makes this a great shot. Nice exposure and white balance, and you captured the eye perfectly. Well done! |
