I think that owl knew exactly what it was doing -- after all, that are not called wise for nothing! He probably took off right at the time your were leaving, laughing to himself (if owls laugh) all the way. I'm still trying to decide if the thick branch on the right detracts from the subject, but it is a nice capture, and different because you caught the bird with his eyes closed. |

Very well done. The body and head are captured nicely. Costa Rica, as well as Ecuador, are a real gold mine for this kind of photography, no? Of course it's always a matter of preference, but I also like the effect of having the wings frozen via a higher shutter speed or with the aid of flash. Again, for me, I would try some focus stacking and try to get the flowers in focus -- maybe even move the bird closer to the plants, and include more of the image to the left because as of now it does seem to crowd the left side somewhat. Still, great final image. |

The leaves make a great framing device, drawing your eyes directly to the oriole, and as you mention, the not too saturated green colors go perfectly with the oranges/yellow of the bird's breast. Maybe crop out a portion of the left side? |

Great job of bring out the detail of the bird. The bright colors of the peacock contrast well with the comparatively drab hues of the background, and contribute to the bird's standing out as the real subject of interest. The background is busy, but not too busy and thus does not detract. |

Nice separation from the background, and the colors of the field and the owl blend well. The only drawback is the odd shape of the head, owing probably to the fact that the bird was twisting away from you at the time it was approaching. |
