For certain, this guy isn't going to go hungry this winter! I love the 'angry bird' look in his eyes. I think he's daring you to take one of his berries. I wonder if the breast is a little too saturated, but overall a beautiful image. |

The second photo is the better photo with the bird's staring directly at you as well as the needle fish's teeth more evident -- however it is way too big for this forum. Try going online and check out some videos on how to resize files. |

I wonder if merely playing around with the contrast settings would have accomplished the same result -- my first reaction was that the image was a bit lacking in contrast. Nice head on shot; the bird looks like it is aiming straight for you! |

Assuming you did not use a tripod, I agree that the shot turned out a lot sharper than I would have anticipated. As mentioned by Bruce and Adrian, cropping in works well to eliminate a lot of the space that does not contribute to the overall composition, and darkening the background helps to make the bird stand out more. It helps that the background has a blurred look. The pink works well here -- this is a color that you don't often see featured in a picture of animal wildlife. |

The subject of this image being the bird and its capture, I wonder if you could have gotten a bit lower so as to have the lighter part of your picture serving as the background for the head, and then crop in. To me, the interaction of the bird and snake is more important and interesting for the composition than most of the landscape. As it is, the bird is somewhat lost in background. |
