I like the idea of your attempt. Could you have used some flash fill along with a Better Beamer type device in order to bring out more of the wing detail? |

As stated by Bruce and Cindy, you could extend the frame to give the bird more space to continue in its flight. Zooming (or cropping) in does have its applications, such as a static shot where the subject is sitting on a branch, but maybe not so much in action shots. Excellent background treatment suggests water but does not distract from the bird. |

The lighting on the bird on the left is very well captured and the one on the right is not very far off. The eyes of both birds are well lit and the shading of the bird on the right is not distracting. The source of light coming from above makes for a good hair light, and adds a modeling effect to both subjects. You might want to crop in from both sides, as the areas along the sides do not add much to the composition. |

A lot of interesting and useful comments from the members. If possible, try using a tripod and/or flash -- this would be a good experimental process. The bokeh in the background is very well done and serves to make the subject stand out. You didn't mention the burst mode for the Fuji, but the more shots you can get in sequence, the better. It's hard to get that great shot doing it one at a time. |

Generally speaking, most photographers try to avoid what is called 'butt shots' which are pictures taken from behind, because most of the interest lay in the face. |

Nice job of cropping, giving the bird 'room' to head toward the left. Maybe a bit of halo hugging the legs a result of post processing? Subtle blue coloration. Overall soft box lighting. |
