Nice interaction shot, and pretty good detail considering it was backlit. The only problem for me is the bush immediately behind the birds, which is somewhat distracting. In your "first original" the penguin is very well isolated from the background, and shows much to its advantage in terms of composition. Would you have been able to move around to the left or right for a different angle? |

Hi Marge. One thing I've learned from experience, and maybe this will help, but there are some times you'll find the picture, for whatever reason is not worth taking. This can be because of poor lighting, the subject being obscured in the background, boring background, etc. In the case of your image, I think that the kite was simply too far away for getting any detail. I think this is what happened here, although you didn't say what the focal length was set at. |

Inasmuch as the owl is the subject, perhaps you could crop in somewhat to give more prominence to it. I'm glad you were able to catch the eyes, which to me is always an important aspect of any portrait, be it human or animal. Here, the eyes may be a bit over over processed, but to be confined to a vehicle makes it much more difficult. |

Nice intersecting of visual lines -- the downward slant of the leaves and the upward slant of the bird. Nice touch of the seed in midair. Vivid colors, and sharp -- well done. |

Can't find too much to criticize here -- this is a very well done shot. I like the gaze of the eyes straight at the viewer, and the very sharp focus of the bird against the blurred background. The right leg suggests movement. Maybe crop in a bit from the sides, as there may be too much space that does not add to the composition. Great shot! |
