I tried working on the claws, and it seemed that after awhile the more I worked on them the worse it looked. |

Yes, I think the eyes being sharpened a bit more helps. |

The stone wall is handled well -- not too dark, so you have plenty of detail, and not too bright so that it doesn't detract from the garden within. Nice 'looking through the hole-in-the wall' image. If you moved the shrub on the right to the opening, would that help balance the composition with the potted plants on the left? |

Beautiful image, Kaylyn. Somewhat unusual and dramatic cloud formation which gives a nice diagonal line heading toward the tree; the tree, in turn, seems to be the radiating source of the clouds, almost like the burning bush in the bible. Great natural color palette, not overly saturated. Perhaps leave a little more room on the bottom? With the fishing and the photos, looks like you cashed in on a one-two parlay! |

Joe -- I think you really nailed this one! There is so much to examine here. The rhythmic, jazzy and colorful vertical lines set off the man and girl, and it could have been really distracting, but you got it to work in this image. Some of the reds and blues in the wall are picked up in the man's clothing, and the polka dots in the dress contrast nicely with the stripes. And you can just see the anticipation in the little girl's face as she takes a peek at what's inside the bag. Her expression is a really universal look in children of all cultures. Great story! I might have brightened the man a little bit in order to bring him out from the background, but other than that, I love what you've done here. |

This has fun and action written all over it, not a bad combination! As Mike points out, the red pants really add to the image, and the wall and greenery in the background bring out the water columns. The soft box effect of the ambient light is so much better than if it was a sunshiney and contrasty day. Great job! |

Mike -- very nice and original capture. This certainly demonstrates the power of nature because it's set in a wide vista. I've seen storms like this and they are very impressive. Just a few points: As always, very bright areas in a composition take the eyes off of the main subject(s) and if you cropped off quite a lot of the left side, it would move the rainbow off center and give more weight to the dramatic dark sky. And, I think you should have left the second row of the greens somewhat darkened, but not silhouetted. This would have added to the vastness of the scene. Still, beautifully done! |

Nice rescue from the original. The colors of the plane and the background match nicely. The bomber is probably too close to the bottom edge, leaving the top portion of the image not doing much for the overall composition. While the angle of view is spot on and dramatic, there is always the problem, when taking shots of piston driven aircraft, of balancing high shutter speed (to keep the plane looking sharp) with the additional matter of freezing the motion of the propellers. A difficult solution might be to experiment with radial blur in Photoshop. I always try to hit the exact moment when the props are at right angles to me, or edge on, so that the motion of the propellers is not an issue. As it is, it looks like the plane is coming in for an emergency landing with all engines out. Still, a beautiful look at a WWll legendary workhorse. |
